there are different types of response as a police officer. sometimes you are required to go above the speed limit with lights on and sometimes its lights off. you guys are *****!ng about this crap all the time but dont do anything about it. if youre that mad call the p.d. and complain. i guarantee when you relay the plate number you will be told that the officer was responding to a call or whatever. get over it. stay on the right side of the law and you have nothing to worry about. police in foreign countries beat people and accept bribes and **** and you guys are complaining about our police doing their jobs.

this must be what jon is talkin about when he says the post quality is sh!tting the bed.

Jeeeez... I think the main point is this: If the cop would turn on his light people would 1) notice him and get out of the way and 2) probably say to themselves "gee, he must be on a call and in a hurry so I will get out of his way."

You people that bash the people that complain about cops abusing their priveleges, go stick your heads back in the sand and keep at or under the speed limit. Everyone knows there are a few good cops and a LOT that are jerks and abuse their "rights" and such. EVERYONE knows this. Knock it off. It's the way it is and the way it has been. Probably not gonna change soon. Yeah they deal with the scum of the land every day, but it's the job - everyone knows that too.

Anyways... These things happen. If you want to be OK with that, cool. Some want to complain about it. But no matter what, it's the way it is. The cop in this post should have had his light blaring if he's going to drive like that. It's one thing if they are marked cruisers, but since so many look like regular cars, it's not just in everyone's best interest for them to have the light on - it's in theirs too.

^^^ Pete, don't apologize! You did nothing wrong. What is "quality" post anyway? According to them, it's anything that is not technical or in compliance to their ways of thinking.

And American cops don't take bribes and beat the **** out of ppl (read Rodney King) for no good reason?? Hum... Gimme a break.

...... Cop bashing yeah!!!! You guys crack me up. 99.9999999999% of the time cops don't use their lights to respond to calls.

Cops drive fast!!!! Anytime anywhere. I'm guilty, a lot of us are. The training does help, but anyone here could go to Vegas and take a class, go to auto-x and be better trained for highspeed driving.

To me if I was driving on the freeway fast, I wouldn't use my lights. Many times when people see the lights they panic, dont know how to react and then become more of a safety risk. Besides, I've said it before the lights and sirens are useless at speeds over 50mph. It is a trip. Nextime you see an ambulance comming up in your review, look straight ahead and see when you hear the siren. (fun little experiment that opens some eyes)

Trust me cops are not perfect and don't pretend to be. If you guys could drive faster than the speed limit without any major ramifications you would too. I'm sorry that some of you have such a bad idea of cops, but trust me we don't take anything personal and you won't be the first person to complain and wont be the last.

I wish someone would start a I hate firefighters thread. I hate firefighters!!!!!!! The only reason is cause everyone loves them and hates cops.

In conclusion, all I have to say is sheepdogs and sheep!!!!

P.S. Peter is the man, anyone has a problem with his posts can kiss my blue slacks wearin' a$$.

pete pete i got nothing aginst what you said. i know you were just asking a question and sry if it seemed like i was mad at ya. i'm just tired of everyone complaining or crying about this and that. it's like they're jealous little kids. "oh he gets to drive fast how come i don't get to". get over it. it's unfair this, it's not right that...boo hoo. you'd think that people who put their life on the line everyday would get a little respect and appreciation. yea so maybe he isn't responding to a call...and? you make like you guys have never gone over the speed limit in your life. let he without sin cast the first stone. and chuckie, 90% of the time your postwhoring....so don't talk. i'm not trying to start a war or make this personal but c'mon guys, act like adults.

not sure how it is in hawaii but in socal... cops are just bad drivers with badges. ive seen more police involved (dwc or "driving while cop") than civilian accidents.

I guess I really don't understand. It seems like no one can ever say anything about a cop's actions without a cop bashing post or two coming up and people immediatley jumping into taking sides. To some, they can do no right and to others anything you say "you don't appreciate the heros that put their lives on the line." Can we just acknowledge that, just like everyone else (bank tellers, firefighters, llama herders, mechanics, etc) there are good and bad???????

When I see an ambulance or a firetruck or a cop with lights on behind me (and I am always keeping tabs on what's around me, part of a driver's job) I move to the right and stop as safely and quickly as possible. I don't understand why anyone wouldn't. If people get panicked and do stupid stuff then they are a bad driver. When I see a 4Runner or a Camaro heading at me ***** out who the hell knows if it's a cop or not unless he has his light on.

The simple point, and all I was trying to say was that if a cop would ON his light when driving irresponsibly, the people like me would getTF outta his way, and the people that look down on cops would see the action of his light being on and note that maybe just maybe it is official business. No, they do not have to have their lights on but IT MAKES SENSE TO TURN THEM ON.

Your post makes it sound like no cop has ever done anything shady. I hate it when people act like that. My uncle is in the police force in LA (22 yrs) and he's a great guy, and we have talked at length about the people that aren't. I always off my car, down the windows, put keys on the dash and hands on the wheel when I get pulled over because I KNOW it must suck to walk over to a car not knowing what is in store for you. I always am 'yessir/nosir' because I have respect for them. Usually I get treated like crap, get false accusations etc. I know the last guy he might have seen might have been a jerk but that's not my fault - that's part of the job. If they can't handle that - they shouldn't be cops. I know I cannot, so I am not a cop. I am glad there are people that are and can. It's too bad there are people that suck (whatever uniform they wear) but there are, and it's not bashing to acknowledge that.

BTW - I have never heard of a firefighter doing any of the crappy things I have heard about other people. From my experience growing up in HI and living for 8 years in CA, cops have a bad reputation for a reason even though there are some seriously good guys out there on the front lines.

Being a cop is NOT sole justification for driving like an *** and putting people's lives in danger. If I were a cop, I would try to set an example as I believe cops should. They are people too and are not above criticism. Every cop that does something that pisses off the public is JUST making things worse for other cops. Why not try to set an example instead of doing things that WE ALL KNOW pisses off the public?? Whether the need to have the light on or not, whether your average person can tell it's on or not (wtf?) it's JUST A GOOD IDEA.

As far as kissing your blue slacks wearing a$$, I will do my best to not let your attitude and comments affect my otherwise high regard for Police Officers.

I <3 this thread!!!! ^^^ hoppie is da man!!! Nah he is right though, the majority of us don't normally use our lights, it's all about going "stealth" per se to show up at a possible hot call. If someone is breaking into a house and hear the sirens and see blue lights flying up the road they are gonna bail out before we are even close. But to roll up without anything on gives up a slight sense of camoflauge (sp?).

As Dan mentioned, a police car or ambulance for that fact could have their sirens on weaving through traffic and no one would really notice it until they were a few car lengths behind you, only because everyone is paying attention to the cars in front. Even after the cars move out of the way, there's always going to be one babooze that wants to play chase and use the emergency vehicle like a lead block and blow through traffic. I almost got into an accident last week because of a moving van thinking that he could pick up enough speed, only to see the cars go 4 wide on a 3 lane freeway.

I wouldn't say that speeding is right, but it's one of the benefits of being a cop, you can drive a bit faster than everyone because you could be trying to get to a call.

i hate to say this but majority of hawaii driver's can't drive why do u think we have soooooo much traffic. slow drivers drive in the fast and slow lanes. if some going faster comesup on u u don't move to the other lane to let them pass u. i mean when i tool my trip to panama there are 4x the amount of cars on the road hardly any traffic light and most roads are 2lanes going both ways and there is hardly any traffic. damn they do drive crazy tho they all know how to drive. when i was diving there i felt retarded cause i couldn't drive like them at all untill a cpl days later when i picked it up. i mean why can't we as hawaii ppls learn how to drive why can't we have a cut of at 75yrs old so less older stop driving just make taxi's cheaper or the bus cheaper for them. u should be 18yrs to get ur license. but mostly if u drive slow keep to the right. next time u go out driving look and see if u come up on someone fast in the fast lane and soo if they move for u or vic versa(sp) will u move for someone coming fast up on u? we here really need to learn how to merge to cause less accidents. when getting onto a freeway go down to where the lanes actually merge and not try to stop 5ft after getting on to the on ramp and try to cut someone off to get on the freeway. ppls here just can't drive. myself included i try to do all of this but sometimes i forget
