Help with SVCD's
I went ahead and burned some SVCD's with Nero in the hopes of some higher quality video files (don't ask) but it won't play in my DVD player. Doesn't even recognize the disc. My DVD player is supposed to be able to play SVCD's. The VCD's I make are nice, but I was hoping for a little extra definition. Do I have to make them a different version (currently making Mode 2/XA discs)?
If you haven't noticed, I'm playing with my computer a lot more since my car is currently assed up.

Pat, I'll give it a try, I'm out of disc's anyway.
Mario, Flashing CEL and ****-poor performance. 'fraid it might be something serious, or else jacked plugs/coils/other. Getting it checked out tomorrow.

in a rush but i could give some info about it.
about 60% of dvd players can't play vcd/svcd on cd-r's...thats just how they're made in their firmware...unless you have one thats hackable.

i've been burning SVCDs for a couple of years now(movies and personal DV movies converted). assuming you encoded the file correctly i'm guessing like what boom said it might be your dvd player. what type of player do you have? i the know pioneers and the older generation apex can play svcds. samsung has a hard time and sony don't even try it.

I'm running Nero, too. Very nice, and if the files are the wrong format (MPEG 1) it will re-encode them to MPEG2 at the proper bitrate. Takes a LOOOONG time.
My DVD player plays CD-R VCD's with no problem, but I guess SVCD's give it probs. I'm going to try burning at a slower speed (4x I think) to give it a better burn. It's already taking almost 2 hours to re-encode, so an additional 10 minutes of burn time doesn't bother me much.
Now I needto find some more high-quality material. High quality files look GOOD even on VCD's on the old WEGA 32". Miko Lee is SOOOOOO HOT at high res.
*The Miko Lee referenced in the above post is Miko Lee the Winter Coat model. Just in case you think I'm a perv, or something.

Nothing like a nice girl in a "North Face". That gets me so turned on.

Will that be one VCD or two?
