I guess I can say that I'm not completely old school (joined back in '05) but am not a complete noob either....I'm kind of in the middle. I do agree with everything that Josh said and am very thankful that he posted this. Thanks Josh! I-club has changed over the years, but that's to be expected with any "club" of this sort. People come and go...they sell their cars and move on. New owners come in and along with that comes new good guys/girls and bad guys/girls. It comes with the territory.
I won't fully criticize anybody for the things that they say or do because I've never been the guy to organize an install day, or a cruise, or the meats. When I was a little more active, I attended pretty much every cruise, meat, and charity events though. In the past year or two, I've sold my "real suby" and while I still have my beater Forester, I've shifted my attention to my other rides. <<< As is life, we sometimes move on. The hard part is a lot of the noobs coming in never got to witness the awesomeness that Iclub once was, so they don't know. We can't bash these guys and hold it over their heads for something that some of them have no idea about. I'm sure there will be a few d-cks that will come along, but I'm sure most will be cool.
And yes Jon, I know exactly what you're saying about earning respect and all that, but to move forward positively, us "oldies" need to let go of some of the crap that happened in the past and let it be. We can all catch more bees with honey, so while I agree being "real", if the idea is to resurrect the "new and improved I-club", being positive will be the best approach in my humble opinion.
Can I get an Amen?

I have always been about new beginnings and always respect/respected those that come directly to me for a resolution but usually they aren't man enough to do so. People always make judgements and assumptions on things they don't know. Josh can attest to this.
Anyway, if this "club" is to move forward positively then the newbies need to step up and make a difference instead of expecting hand outs and expecting everyone else to do things.
I have always been around and there are many ears and eyes here. Take accountability and responsibility for your actions and there will be no problems.

Sorry Josh, sadly, it's the way clubs go... there are points of awesomeness, and points of crap. I remember the heyday of the subie club, back in the 2000ish era, where SCCA had 20 friggan GC/GM's show up and everyone had a blast.
We still have a bunch of good guys here that keep the club from going to crap though, some of you old schoolers still bring the vibe from back then.
The Miata club has gone through a lot of that, and now, we have 15 "active" hellaflush little kids. It's changed the vibe and I can't say I like it. But, the miata club is still alive and probably more active then it has been in 8 or so years. Wish it could go back to the old school days, but alot of those members who dedicated a lot of time and energy into making the club what it was, has left.
My hope is that some of the newer members can and will bring the enthusiasm and helpfulness that the iclub was known for back in the day. It's not really all that bad, but then again, I only saw it from the outside since 99.

I've been around for a bit, but I still consider myself a noob. I just keep in mind that there will always be someone that knows something more thoroughly than I do, and that it's always better to be humble when it comes to things like cars. There are often many different ways to achieve the same objective, one way might be better than another. This goes for clubs and the people in them too, it's a place for everyone to share in the interest we all have, I think that's the important thing to keep in mind. Also, that others may do that in different ways, and that's totally cool.

Josh, all,
Cheryl and I are always up for helping out in whatever way we can. Let's setup some sort of formal meeting possibly when this gets further worked out as to who would be willing to participate in something like this? Maybe a BBQ or just a meet in the near future with a serious 30 minutes to "start" things off?
And thanks for posting this, good to get it out there for people to think about and possibly act on.

In the past, there have been members who stepped up to take charge of certain events and cruises. For that, I am eternally grateful. Ted, Walter, Gregg, Blake, Jess, myself, Tim (Melht), etc. have over the years planned and ran some seriously huge Subaru cruises. I'm talking like well over 70 Subarus deep, single file on the freeway big. That looked and sounded pretty damned epic.
yes, i am nowhere near an old schooler, but we've had some epic cruises and events together. these were tailored to cater to both the enthusiasts and their family as well, including the kids. that's what make these events fun.
i was a noob when i started to help organize the AUW, T4T, and some other events including hiking. your involvement and engagement to the group does not stop from posting here. you need to go out to the meets, volunteer your time, and participate and support in some of these great events.
josh, i may be so busy nowadays, but if you need me to help you with some logistics, i am more than happy to share these. i'm sure walter is also in the same page with me on this.
i know we probably overdid some of these events, but i'm sure everyone had fun and not to mention we raised some serious money for the needy over the years.
ted

I hear you guys on it isn't the same. I haven't been around forever, but I feel it's been long enough to see how things were and how they are now. Things change, I know for one I am not anywhere near as active in meets and cruises as I used to be. Life changes and so do our priorities, my business, girlfriend and AutoX (where I still see a lot of you!) take up a hell of a lot of time and it's sad that HIIC has taken a back seat.
I hope that this sparks some interest in some of the newcomers that never got a chance to have a story like I have for just about every one of those pictures that Ted posted (since it feels like I'm in almost all of them
) so that they can create their own memories of this awesome community. All of you oldtimers can probably agree with this n00b in saying that HIIC will probably NEVER be like how it used to, but maybe it's time for something new? Maybe go a different route, not that I have any idea which way that would be, but as people change I think the club will need to adapt as well. Enough rambling on.
