Harassed by the police today.


was sitting at a stoplight- downtown waikiki, and a cop pulls up alongside me. he radios another cop, he pulls up behind me, and after about a mile of tailing me, (abiding all laws and limits) he pulls me over.

"your exhaust sounds a bit too loud"


"is it stock?"

- i believe so sir, i dunno i bought the car this way. hehe right?


"u need recon"

- for a stock car sir?

"yes"

"im letting u off with a warning"

at this point i couldnt believe it.. luckly there was a domestic dispute going on right where i pulled over, he was totally distracted by the fight breaking out.. and he just took down my name and phone # on a piece of paper..


local tips?? is my car marked now? should i bother with this recon nonsense?? if i get pulled over im worried i may get a ticket. im not even sure how to get a recon done..

any advice?

 

you don't need recon for exhaust anymore. i got pulled over in town too, got the ticket, and took it to court. recon office said no need and so did the judge. he was probably a noob or something.../jerk???

I dont know, Honolulu Police Department seems to have a lot of ******** cops. Well, a lot more then other places I've been. I've lived on the Big Island for awhile, and the cops there are no where near as pull-over-happy as the cops are here.

And just so everyone dosnt think I'm a cop hater, my father is a cop on the Big Island. And no, he has no pull on this island!

what is recon for you guys?

 

Thats pretty funny, I was driving out of Waikiki last night after going to the bar and driving speed limit, this cop behind me just got pissed because I was going so slow and then he sped right past me haha

 

a stupid way for the state to make more money
but seriously its an inspection you need when you modify the suspension of your car

 

No RECON on Big Island either.......so nothing to harass

 

so lets clarify:

RECON is for Suspension and Wheels.

Wheels if they are 2 or more inches from stock I believe

 

RECON is short for reconstruction. It is for when you modify anything on your car beyond OEM. Its not just for suspension or wheels although that would be probably the majority of the RECON'S done.

As stated in a previous post I have been in Hawaii for 8 years and I will never bow down to the RECON.

On a side note we all choose to mod our cars and harassment from the police is the risk we take. If you don't like it don't mod your car simple as that.

from what i understand...they don't require wheels anymore. Although expect to get harassed for them. Especially if they are buggin Milo about exhaust.

 

I think they should just get rid of recon altogether
