Got Intercooler?

Hey guys, just thought I'd share. Thing is, my brother has a close friend that is a full-fledged, certified mechanic. You know, does the motor swaps, turbo installs, and the such. Same as what you guys do. Anyway, I talked to him about doing my turbo install (because he did such a great job with my other stuff), and he mentioned that he makes custom intercoolers.
He can make them to whatever size I specify, while using the existing mounts. Best part of it all, is that he can make the top mount for about $500 bucks . He can also do a front mount, but that would be a little more, because of the piping.
Sounds like a good deal to me, considering that aftermarket topmounts range from 800 to 1000 bucks. I'm going to have him make one that's the exact dimensions as the "popular brand." This will definitely come in handy when Cobb unleashes their stage 3.
This will not happen anytime soon, mind you. Probably at the end of February, or early March. That's when he's going to have time for my turbo install. I'll have him take measurements for the IC at that time. If anyone is interested, maybe he can make a few more at the same time. Of course, I'm going to allow myself to be the guinea pig, and I'll let you guys know how good it really is. Please don't ask me any more specifics, for I don't really know any at this time. And no, I'm not trying to personally make any profit by trying to gauge interest. Just thought I'd share.
I'll keep you guys posted!

Sometimes it's good, that you pay for a little R&D.

I'll remember that, but that's sooo true. You get what you pay for, yeah? Cheap, ghetto products sure are risky.

Very true....providing that the company actually did the R&D.

for something like and IC or exhaust system I wouldn't be too concerned with the R&D provided quality parts are used and the design is copied off of known good systems.

what I would be concerned with is the quality of the welds and fabrication. I went that route once trying to save money on an exhaust system for my MR2 and it looked like crap though it worked fine. the welds were ugly and multiple pieces of mandrel bent turbing had to be pieced together to make it work.

there are only a couple of welders locally that I would trust to fabricate a IC or exhaust system. does Walter work for Speedgear/Evolution? he was the welder for Evolution and does great work.
