Foreign Automotive Corporate Dominance in the U.S.

Wow.

DETROIT, Sept. 1 — To understand the ongoing assault by foreign automakers in the United States, look no further than the traditional car market. If sales trends don’t change dramatically, Toyota will sell more cars in the United States this year than each of the two brands that have dominated for a century: Chevrolet and Ford.

I can't even imagine a Toyota that I'd want since the Supra went by the wayside (and that includes trucks and vans).

JD Power Dependability Chart

Interesting:

Best Vehicles (least defects):
1. Lexus
2. Infinity
3. Buick
4. Porsche
5. Acura

Worst Vehicles (most defects):
5. Volkswagen (surprising)
4. Suzuki
3. Daewoo
2. Land Rover
1. Kia

Wow. Hyundai escapes the "Korean Curse"!

Wow. I feel bad. I think I'm going to do my part and buy a Z06 or '03+ Cobra next to help boost our flagging domestic car sales.

I don't take the JD Powers award's worth anymore because they have stupid *** awards just as "Best Intial QualitY" and "Best Customer Satisfaction in Low End Truck Tires under 90 dollars". Those don't mean anything to me. I had a friend who bought the Chevy Malibu which won the JD Powers Best Initial Quality award but totally became a lemon after 6 months.

I think KBB w/ Consumer Reports released a more accurate chart on vehicle dependability about a half year ago for each year. It was all about how much defects for every 100 vehicles. Toyota came on top, but Hyundai tied with Honda on that catagory. That was seriously weird but I trust it because my grandma just bought an Elantra GT and its a good commuter vehicle. The interior is as good if not even better than the WRX and it has a very good engine.

And to add to that, being my 1000th post, I'm surprised to even see Suzuki and VW being one of the worst.

I frequent the VWVortex and I'm not surprised to see VW near the top. The current gen 1.8T's have had their fair share of problems, colipacks and window regulators being the main culprits.

If the US made a car that was cool, I'd buy it. The Z06 is about the only cool US car right now, and I can't even afford it. Let's hope the new Mustangs ROCK!

well, hopefully US car makers will get off their fat lazy asses and build a NICE, reliable, FAST, Affordable car that can even Turn corners good!!!!
Until they come up with something that will seriously compete with the likes of an STi, G35, EVO, 350Z, etc, .... I won't be buying US brands.

but how many of the 'foreign' cars sold are actually made overseas?
