I went to pickup my wife from her new office in Downtown SF where from her 30th floor office, she as a view of the Bay/Bay Bridge. I dropped in to see her boss, who is a car fanatic and who races his Z06 (amongst others). He invited me to a private track day at either Sears/Thunderhill as part of his racing partnership. All day with only 10-15 people in line!
Anyway, I was quite appreiciative about the opportunity to finally track my Subie when he dropped the bomb on me... look what he gets to drive around in for the next 6-12 months....
The MB AMG SL55 (493hp!)
AND (when it arrives...)
He's part of a racing partnership where members rotate cars every 6-9 months.
He's driving at Ferrari 360 and Maserati Spyder now. Ahh.... kinda miss getting paid a salary when I hear stuff like this.

Nice Stan, that track day should be fun. I would like to hit the track some day. Nice rides. Your wife's boss is blingin' (as the youngsters would say).

You mean Porsche is actually letting those cars into the hands of mere mortals!
I thought only F1 and WRC drivers would even be allowed in the same general area...
Oh, and rap stars and NBA players would be allowed to buy them and immediately put them in storage for future appearance at Christie's.

Well first off my wife's boss is actually the president of their company. So he does well for himself. Don't get me wrong, he's no Ellison or Gates. He just prioritizes his money differently than most.
If you think about it, it makes sense. You essentially start a company, say for instance a racing developing company. You get some people who share the same passion as you to put up money. Your new company essentially "leases" these cars. These cars and the drivers are then insured by the company. These cars are essentially "company" cars. All legal and on the up and up.
Kinda cool. When I talked to him, he didn't seem all that impressed with the Maserati Spyder. Loved the Ferrari 550 (it looked beautiful in person) and the 360. Looking forward to driving the MB AMG SL55 tho'. A racing enthusiast wanting to drive a Mercedes... who'd have thunk it...
The plan is to take my drive along in their Z06. I don't think I'll be getting to ride OR drive the other aforementioned cars. Then, it'll be me behind the wheel of my Subie with my wife's boss as my instructor. Looking forward to it in the summer.
