Engine Knocking
Engine Knocking
So i have had nothing but problems with my car since i got to the island. But this one is my fault... about a month ago i had a knocking in my motor and i couldn't figure it out and i came to find that i had no oil. Dumb i know i put oil in and it ran fine and everything was alright till last night when my car died at a red light and i couldn't figure out why. i checked my oil and it had about 2qts in it and was really low. I limped the car back and it has a knocking now if i go above 3k rpm. I think its a thrown bearing not 100%sure tho. i have a crappy video and here it is...

(this is me revving up to 2500rpm you hear nothing at idle.)
Anyone know a shop that can fix it and not rip me off. Thanks

Touché on the crappy vid lol. Sounds like something is rattling by the video not knocking. Get a better vid up.
Bearings are toast, quit driving it at all until you can get it fixed.
You should have found the oil leak b4 continuing to drive your car.
It won't be cheap no matter where you go. They'll be charging a lot of labor hours to pull the motor, disassembling the motor to crack open the short block to replace the bearings. Depending on the damage done they may need to machine the crank and use over-sized bearings.

I have a friend that is a mater tech and i think i just might buy a new short block i found a good deal for 2k shipped here and just replacing everything myself. i might do a few extra things while i have the motor torn apart.

I have acl bearings and headgaskets in my closet right now.
I can rebuild it for you.
PM me if you want details.
Order a heat exchanger for sure. Never reuse one if there has been bearing failure...unless you just want to rebuild it a 2nd time shortly after.
AVCS pulleys and oil pump can be cleaned, but some people replace those after bearing failure also.
