Now I'm getting good advice from a couple of people I consider to be really suby-smart, Hotdog and MJU1983. The impression that I get from what both tell me is to stick with the WRX heads, enlarge the bore a bit, get some 264's, more lift than duration, hardened hardware/valvetrain.
Also, Ron@Axis tells me about the v7 heads & cams
It's still impossible for me to do a cost/benefit analysis of the 2 liter modified WRX heads described above vs. v8 US STi heads. I don't know enough of the factors to weigh, let alone weight. I can't even do a straight-up cost analysis. Maybe I haven't taken enough time with it.
Here's Subaruparts.com's list of cost breakdown: (although it doesn't look like this would include the cams, though)
SP.com
Here's Axis Power Racing's:
$1249 port and polish package Intake/exhaust cfm: 260/225
$1199 option single spring. Add $200 for dual.
JUN cams Unstated price, but only $350 per for RA or Spec C. ~1400?
larger valves - $349

"They are designed for higher rpm outputs, not torque like the 2.5 has'

I just take comfort in making myself be patient and forcing myself to gather as much information, opinion, experience as I can before dropping this sort of cash...if at all.
Thanks Chris.

Ok,
Someone give me some advice, yea or nay. $1700 for complete V8 usdm heads.
I'm finding it impossible to shop sensibly from here. Best that I could come up with is that I'd probably want to take a set to Ron @ Axis for a tougher valve train, but honing my stock ones vs. buying v8's is a tough call. It seems to come down to bang for bucks. (no pun intended).
What do you think? I probably won't be able to check here again for another 12 hours, but hopefully he'll hold them.
Thanks,

I say nay. For about a thousand more, you can score a wrecked/ stolen recovery STi, take the heads, and sell the remainder, and get your money back. I almost scored Dan's, but the insurance cmpany got it first.

Chris,
Brings up questions.
$3k for a wreck? seems like a deal like that might be difficult to find. My situation is, on the one hand, the deal is right here right now, but on the other, my jets have cooled a bit as...I won't be actually needed them for a few months, at least. Ha.
Dan's car wrecked? (notice I'm not saying 'Dan wrecked his car?')
Are you talking about Mach5? I'm going to need a pm from someone.
