A friend bought a used 2007 EDM Subaru WRX STi.
I tried to have access to the ECU by using tactrix 2.0 and ecuflash.
Problem is, I can't have access at all and keep getting error.

The previous owner had EcuTek.
After reading lot of thread, it seems EcuTek lock the Ecu after using it and will not let you access with other softwares.

My questions are:

-When he bought the STi, the previous owner didn't include the EcuTek software/license/cable... and he is asking for money of course...
But I want to make sure if by buying all that ****, I will be able to unlock and throw that ****ty Ecutek. So I can have fun with ecuflash.

-I saw online there is a possibility of using Cobb AP to unlock EcuTek.
But Cobb state AP will only work on USDM STi and not EDM or JDM.
Funny thing is recent STi, Forester or Outback support AP either JDM or USDM.
Do you think Cobb is saying it won't work because they have no map for JDM/EDM?

-Any other way to unlock EcuTek?

looks like I am wrong

 

You need to be a pro tuner to be able to use Cobb AP with anything else other than USDM. The owner should just include it, what is he going to do with it

@ nic3 - so if I get the Ecutek software back, I can unlock it? he want to make money... True story, he couldn't pay the car so bank took it back and did an auction.

I didn't try that... but since we don't have the stock ROM, how we gonna do without the ID immobilizer?
