Jon the pic you posted of the rear subframe is different from the 97 OBS. as Shaggy stated the mounting holes of the subframe on the OBS has like a rubber bushing it mounts to. IMO it maybe a better design than the newer models just because it can flex under impact vs just being on a solid mount. or maybe cause its an OBS its designed that way so you can go off road. oh well, who knows (shrugs shoulders) you would definetly have to see it.

Water Pump Install
Here's a pic of the block with old water pump removed:

New water pump:

New water pump installed on the block:

The water pump was a straight forward swap I think it was only easy because I have the engine out. With the engine installed I can see where it can get really tight especially when re-installing the timing belt.

Timing belt install
Here is Dave installing the timing belt:

Timing belt in............. FINALLY!

The timing belt was a pain in the booty. First keeping the timing marks aligned on the drivers side was fun. Where it is aligned is actually opening valves so with that be said it makes it very easy to pop out of place because of the valve springs. Second the timing belt is a snug fit even with the tensioner compressed down and pinned. After trying multiple ideas Shaggy made a call to his buddy which in turn he recommend removing one of the idlers. Once that was removed the belt finally went on. Again this seemed fairly easy once we knew the trick and once again this would have been a pain in the booty if the motor was in the car.
Oh and if you don't have a cam gear wrench............hang it up, you are going to have a tough time doing this.
THANKS JON!!
Stay tuned we should have this bad boy fired up sunday!
