To make a living here sadly comes at the cost of taking passing on those prices to consumers. That is why there are so many small businesses in Hawaii.
^ my favorite part: " Cost of a house and traffic dont bother me, its the monopoly cost of electricity, water, car registration and safety check along with Hawaii competitive prices being so high since we are stuck on an island with no other choices..." good reason to move back to the mainland

What other cities/counties/states have choices when it comes to municipal utilities and motor vehicle enforcement?

Mainland costs are not as blatent compared to Hawaii in order to pay for overpaid, underworked, misuses and misappropriations of State funds to pay for salaries and under the table contracts. The State and utilities just passes on the burden to its citizens to pay or raise funds for the wrong doings they do or incur.

Case in point, have photovoltaic? Hmm, HECO states it needs to investigate for another 6 mos. whether or not your system is safe for self reliance or being off the grid and redirecting the solar energy to HECO. Can you imagine HEC sending you a paycheck? BS,. They just dont want the hundreds of homeowners to decrease their monthly bills thus negating any income...

Don't move here is you have a subaru. Myself and another guy who had a stock 2007 sti did not pass recon.
The inspector told both of us he has never seen a subaru pass recon for their suspension because it is stiff from the factory.

Dont move here you will regret it in the end.

Ha, I came here from Iowa and it was a big jump. I was expecting worse but it ended up not being that bad here. But then again I'm not looking for a house either..

If there were actual secure jobs besides 8.59/hr on the big island I'd move rather then stay on corrupt overpriced Oahu. imo

Have to agree with you on that. At least other states use the money to repair the highways. I've never seen 8 different types of pavement on one stretch of highway like H1 and still has more dips and holes than a rally x track. At least I know where my registration went along with the state taxes. Unlike here.
