there is a possibility that you still have some R134 still left in the system that is potentially harmful to your health.

all u guys need is the expansion valve. mine went out a year ago and me and my dad fix it. some shop says that the whole a/c is broken and its goin to cost thousands. the reason why ur a/c is not blowing cold air is because the expansion valve is stuck and need to be replace.

so you're meaning to say that it's impossible for my condensor/dryer assembly to break? or the evaporator? Interesting assumption.

As for A/C evacuation...I'll be going to Lex Brodies. 35 dolla!!!

understood regarding the expansion valve but since i'm going to have to dig down that deep I personally change all that I can to preserve the system since i'll have the car for a while. Also if I sell it no problems with AC unit since it's been all replaced

I completely agree. I use that formula for everything on my car. Plus if i do sell it saying "new A/C system" helps a lot. Especially in the great Aloha State.

Freon is "R-12" and hasn't been used in any cars since 1994.

This is why A/C is the one thing I don't recommend working on yourself.
Here are my 2 main points

1) All the legal crap that goes with it

2) Doing the work right…You don’t just replace these parts and fill the system. If the parts don't get in car right to begin with, (There is an order A/C components go in) the system can be introduced to oxygen and moisture…which will kill the system. Plus whole system will need to be pressure checked & flushed out with nitrogen, R-134a HATES oxygen and becomes poisonous and extremely flammable when mixed with it.

Be careful

good points-now i'm having second thoughts...which is good but i'm in a huge dilema now.

1. My son is due to be born in less than 15 days
2. I don't have the cash for a thousand bucks worth of labor
3. Now what?

evacuate the system. then go home and tear your **** apart taking pictures and using fsm to know where things go back together. then put all back together and then go back to the shop that evacuated it for you and have them charge it for you

Dan (Mach5WRX) is right about the R134 though. be careful there

What year, make & model is your car?

I’m not saying that it can’t be done correctly and safely by a vehicle owner at home. YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!! It’s just not that easy. Just remember you are working with a “sealed & pressurized system” that contains a hazardous material.

I've done my AC a couple of times due to my swap and having to change out my AC line due to it being damage...etc. Not that hard but just need to be careful though
