"Blemish Stains on Headlights"

I just washed my car and noticed that there are unwanted stains on each headlight. Tried using wax to hand buff it out but had no luck. Used rubbing compound but only created few scratches. So does anyone know how to get rid of those stains!!

THANKS for looking

from what i understand and you'll have to have ***** of steel for this... you'll have to sand it down to get rid of it entirely. I've been able to get rid of some of mine by using a clay bar. but the really bad ones just don't go away... Also you might want to do a search on this i think this was covered a while back but I'm not 100% sure on this.

good luck.

any type of plastic polish will do the trick. when i used to work at infiniti all the headlights came like that. regular wax didn't work but we had this little black bottle...i forget the brand though. gotta use plastic polish and rub real hard.

Yeah the Plast X works well if you don't have a clay bar to try first.

My friend used it on his IS300 and it worked well enough.

My mom's Corolla had some major stuff on the headlights but with a claybar and a whole bunch of elbow grease I got it to almost clear

Don't forget to use some kind of polish/wax on it afterward.

Before you do anything drastic, use Maguires Plast-X Polish. Our headlights being plastic will get weathered, scratched and stained.

Follow directions... it will work. If you tore them up with rubbing compound it may be too late?

Oops! just read all the post ~ was being lazy, sorry.

PastX doesn't really work that well. I use the Malco Rejuvenator. Works very well. Don't sand the headlight, even with the finest grit you'll make the headlight "hazy"

Hope this helps

Clay Bar

I just bought a clay bar kit last week. I just wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. I have to say, for those that have never used one, GET ONE! Especially if you have an older car. It made my wifes 2000 Durango look almost new again and I dont think I've washed that thing more than 5 times since I have had it. I used it on my 06, and I noticed a huge difference. Its worth the money. Takes some elbow grease and if you dont put a good coat of wax on afterwards it kinda defeats the purpose, but it was all worth it. I used it on the headlights too and they looked pretty d*mn good too. Might wanna try one out on yours.

Ok guys, I just did my headlights with Mothers Clay Bar and spray. It took off a majority of the stains with alot of elbow grease, but few stains still exist!! Now my next step is going to use Meguiars PlastX and hope this will be the final stage of getting those unwanted stains off!!! Thanks all for your feedback and reviews.

Thanks,

Hey, you get a A for effort anyways. I am sure the only person who will see the left overs is you anyway, right? So, go have a cold one... you deserve it!

3m rubbing compound and a professional orbital buffer($$$), NOT those "random orbit" buffers from walmart.

-random orbit buffers are good fro removing wax n stuff

-believe it or not, orbital buffers will actually heat up the surface and melt it. over doing it will burn paint. this is why its only recomoended for professionals and why walmart doesnt have them. basically all you need to keep in mind is to keep moving. do not stay on one spot while buffing.

your headlights will look brand new. when the blemmish is really bad then thats when you need to resort to 2000 grit wet sanding like jon said. after that, follow up with the buffer.
