Alternative methods of cleaning a K&N filter

do guys use any other alternative methods of cleaning your K&N filter? I keep running into the same problem out here in Korea where I can't just go to a local store and find what I need. In this case K&N recharge kits. I figure warm/hot soapy water or simple green and warm/hot water. but then oiling the filter comes into play. what oil to use? i figure not use any at all because of the potential for clogging the MAF and interfering with the readings.

I use a commercial paint gun with iso alcohol to pressure clean it. As for oil, be super stingy with it. I've seen it destroy the MAF readings on my car

i figure dont use any oil at all because of the MAF.....hell i seen RX7's use no filters at all just open turbines and they never have issues with ingesting anything and they still run strong. the fact that I am even using a filter is 50 plus for me. another example would be other performance filters we'll say HKS dont use oil at all. from my understanding the oil is there for extra filtering benefits.

I put my K&N in the washing machine.

Oh and I don't use oil... because it make the MAF dirty.
If you apply oil, make sure to put just a little bit... but as you said, it is for extra filtering.

Cleaning the MAF is really easy...as such I use the oil for the full cleaning abilities of the filter.

Really, I don't see why you wouldn't fully protect your motor and take shortcuts like that. If you can't find the recharge oil then simply get a different filter for now.

Jess,

Get the APEXi Power filter. Dual funnel, low pressure drop, cleaning is as easy as tapping dirt off and blowing compressed air from inside out. I forgot to mention it also flows better than K&N. No oily MAF to worry about. Fo' shizzle.
