Question the first: what are the laws in Hawai'i for carrying knives? Specifically, are there blade length limitations, and what can or cannot be conceal-carried? Also, are switchblades/butterfly knives (balisongs) illegal? Are there any other "illegal" knives?
Question the second: what are the laws in Hawai'i for owning and carrying firearms? Specifically, what are the licensing and purchase requirements, what sort of firearms are illegal, and what are the laws regarding conceal-carry?
Question the third: has anyone ever eaten at Restaurant Serina and is it any good? It's an Okinawan restaurant on S. King off McCully, supposedly. I can't find any info on it online, but I did see a coupon in one of the tourist rags good for 1 free bottle of Orion beer with meal purchase, and I'm in the mood for some goya chanpuru.
Thank you folks! This post means nothing, really! I'm just... curious

1.) Don't count on packing knives that aren't meant for utility purposes: http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/hi.txt

2.) Don't count on carry-conceal: http://carryconcealed.net/legal/hawa...state-laws.php.
The 15th annual HRA Shooting Sports Fair is being held this Sunday at the Koko Head shooting complex, you could probably find out all you need/want to know there.
highlights:
Carrying deadly weapons... Any person not authorized by
law, who carries concealed upon one's person or within any
vehicle... or who is found armed with any dirk, dagger...
or other deadly or dangerous weapon, shall be fined... or
imprisoned... Any weapon above enumerated, shall, upon
conviction... be summarily destroyed...
...
'Other deadly or dangerous weapon' is limited to
instruments whose sole design and purpose is to inflict
bodily injury or death... A 'diver's knife' is neither a
'dangerous weapon' nor a 'dagger'. 'Deadly and dangerous
weapon' is one designed primarily as a weapon or diverted
from normal use and prepared for combat...

Dude,
You don't need any weaponry of any type in HI. In the time that I lived in HI 21 years off and on...I have never gotten in a single for real fight. I don't think I've even ever been looked at funny or eyed out.
I attribute most of it to the fact that I am bigger than most of the dudes in HI and the other part that I don't look for trouble or look like I should be troubled.
Knowing that you're bigger than me...and you don't act like a butt...I think the intimidation factor alone will ensure that no one will mess with you. Just stay away from the sketchy areas of town and the neighborhoods...you'll know they're sketchy if there's pee pee on the ground or you start getting high off the drug fumes.

Dude! You aren't in Cali anymore.
j/k
Yes, just don't be in the wrong areas in the late hours of the night, or even in the day.
HAHA.. Ryan if you are looking to start something, Tsunami's is not the place, but if you feel the need to just head over to Pipeline. There are always fights there.

There is no concealed carry in Hawaii, the ability to grant a CCP is on the books but permits are never issued. At least 2/3 of the states have some kind of concealed carry or shall-issue law, there is a push to make the permit nationwide for consistency. I bet, though, that if some kind of nationwide CCP became reality, Hawaii would find some way to opt out.

it was easier for me to buy my hand gun in AZ and then transport it via commercial airlines to Hawaii. After that I registered it at HPD. If I took the normal route I would of have to take a hand gun class, then apply for a permit, and then purchase the weapon. The route I took saved me money and time.
On a side note I understand that a CCL is near impossible to obtain so what are the laws on carrying it out in the open on a holdster? Serious question now.
In response to Blake and others, I'd rather have a gun and not need it then to need it and not have it.

+1 for Michigan, they pretty much have to give you a concealed weapons liscence if you apply and dont have a criminal record. I will be getting mine just to have it in case.
long guns can be taken home day of purchase and have to be taken to hpd to register within 3 days.. i dont get it i can go buy a .308 and snipe someone from 300 yards but i gotta wait 2 weeks to walk up and shoot them in the head
