Stripped bolt on intercooler to turbo

So I had a small job done by a local mechanic, he took my grimmspeed AOS off so I can pass smog. When he put the intercooler back on he stripped the threads on my turbo.... *******.

So I went to dealer to see if they can do anything and they said all they can do is install a new turbo, i dont have $1500 to drop on a new turbo.

I am planning on tapping it a little bit larger and then running a bolt and nut on it.

Any other ideas?

I'd say it's pretty bad, doesn't catch at all.

Try rethreading it or tapping it to a bigger size

there are plenty of ways to repair this issue. First you can try to rethread/chase the threads on turbo liek silverbullet415 says, another way is to use a timesert onto it. I prefer timeserts over helicoil just cause the flange where your intercooler bolts onto is opened.

I'm thinking of doing the timesert. Do local stores like autoZone or O'Reillys carry it??

same thing happen to me...grab some grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts and your done. You will never have to worry about stripping them again. Don't forget some anti-seize. Over time the bolt heads might just crack off while trying to loosen them up (if your sticking with the stock set up).
