pick up a used 03 forester 39000 km on it , warranty dated june 03 . Cars seems fine but two problems constant oil leak very noticable in driveway where parked . Had oil changed by two different shops still leaks -when I look thru the oil filter hole oil is dripping from bottom of oil filter . Are oil leaks common? What to look for?
Next the sun /moon roof would not close the other day- hit the close button and it would move open then closed but would not close all the way. The electric motor would seem to labour than stop working . Got it to bump closed a little bit at a time finally closed ( a good long time ) . Had my wife hit the close button while I used an allen key to try to manual close it. Did not want to manual close at all with or with out the close button pushed .
Talked to service guy at dealership ,he seemed to have no advise but to tell me to broing car in and by the way the warranty is up because it is 2 months passed 3 years ( the km's mean knowthing because 3 years have passed ) .

The oil leak is very unusual for a Forester with relatively low mileage like yours. It sounds like the oil filter was either overtightened, or not tightened enough. Hand-tightening will do the trick, any more applied force could lead to leaks. Some good oil change info here: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3014

I've had issues with the moonroof on my 04 FXT as well (see here); you might try resetting the moonroof motor (refer to section C of the attached .pdf file). If that doesn't help, there are usually not many options left outside of replacing the entire moonroof assembly.

 

did the reset on the week end after it stopped raining - did not seem to make a difference - Thanks for the reply
