Anyone have this problem before? The way the grille is pressed up you can't even get to the spring mechanism to work on it...any ideas?

 

If you look to the right and left of the front part where the hood rests (on the radiator support) you will see some black rubber bumpers. The bumpers can be rotated to raise and lower them. You may need to give them a few turns in so the hood sits a littl lower and the latch catches. It also may be that you need to spray the heck out of the latch area with some WD 40 or PB Blaster to free it up.
