you should trade it for a wrx! I have had this conversation before! By the time you dump 5-8000 dollars into it. it might be almost as fast as a stock wrx, minus the suspension, wheels, brakes, etc. A tune is gonna give you very minimal gains and without a turbo i think you will be dissapointed, and DO NOT buy a turbo back exhaust, you will have a hell of a time trying to bolt the downpipe to a turbo that doesnt exist.

Sure a WRX or STI is faster but there is a lot to be said for NA building. NA engines are infinitely more reliable and less prone to problems. Also working mainly on suspension and making it to the track will build driver skill and then when you graduate to a more powerful car, you'll better know how to handle it. I find racing STS class in AutoX in a 2.5 very rewarding. Intake, exhaust, and a tune are all good options. If you get really serious, high compression pistons and some cams will give you that extra edge.

i have just purchased an 07 STi factory cat-back exhaust (cheaper than an aftermarket) for a little better flow, but here are some other mods i am considering or planning on for my 07 2.5i Wagon
- Injen cold air intake (or K&N drop in air filter)
- aftermarket headers
- Tein front/rear strut tower bar
- anti-sway bars
- lowering springs
- lighter weight rims, stickier tires
- any internal/external (carbon fiber hood/trunk essentially) weight reduction you're willing to do
- if you can find one, a new ecu would be beneficial, or a tuning of the current one
with the lower power output to begin with, i would focus on handling and weight reduction. you are only going to push so much horsepower out of the engine and i have already come to terms with that. i would rather have reliability, and i personally live in the mtns the majority of the year so handling and reliability are of course my main focuses. good luck.

maybe you can try to trade it in, or other wise dont waste your money to mod the car. it will only waste your money on the car and not getting much different.
BUT, if you love the boxer sound only, then you can just get a borla R1 cat back or Borla Hush, or a SPT. those can give you a really nice BOXER sound and not too loud.
