Upgrades
So far I'v only done "creature comfort" items to my car, aka stero, amp, sub, inverter, hot wired radar detector, ect...Now im ready to start investing in some power upgrades. Im going to get the COBB intake for sure, it seems to be the best looking on these forums. The Stromung exhast looks nice, and i think i might go with that. My question is with the headers I see alot of people have borla headers and like them, lack the cracked ones. But when I was on COBBS site I saw they also now make a header. Has anyone compared the two? COBBS website claims "This represents a 71% higher average HP gain and an 84% higher average torque gain with the COBB header compared to the Borla/Random combo." How true is this claim, and is it even noticable enough to justify the cost diference? One last question I have is has anyone tried one of those TORNADO things on thier 2.5rs?

im not sure if were talking about the same thing, but if youre talking about the "tornado" thing that's adevrtised in the back of SCC as "supercharge your car for 69.95", they dont do anything. hence the price. i dunno where they get off telling people about 30% hp increase from a seventy dollar mod, but i can assure you they dont work. if we're talking about different things, and ive insulted your intelligence, shame on me. also, dont buy your mods based on looks, please. the weapon "dragon" intake looks cool, but has no effect on performance. buy em cause they're quality pieces.

I've heard good and bad things on the Tornado product. A buddy got one and I used to ride in his car all the time and you can see a little increase in response, but very miniscule. It did help his gas mileage out a bit though. It was a Civic, if that matters. Go with what you think is best. As for mod's, go for an intake and exhaust 1st, then work on the transmission for acceration.

Don't buy that vortech tornado BS. Its just a marketing tool used to make money. The only applications it has proven dyno gains on are big V8s or inline-4s which flow in an entirely different way. I tested mine all day once, taking it out and putting it closer to the t/b or closer to the MAF- no differene and I could hear my intake better with it out, giving me the impression that it was flowing better without that stupid little thing.
Spend money on things you know- intake, exhaust, maybe a chip or something. If you have a 2.5 and $ coming out the a$$, check out cobbs headwork or cams. Heads are supposed to add around 30-40 HP and who knows what with cams as well.
Cobb headers are some of the best out there but one of the plastic splash guard needs cutting to install and they don't end in the stock location so if you decide/plan on going turbo, you've got a thousand dollar header system that is now useless. FWIW.

Yeah, he's got the best point. If your going to do upgrading, do it right. Stick to name brands or just do your research and spend the money the right way. I did the cheap DIY upgrades with bad results. I just got my car running good again and now I'm doing it the right way with fantastic results.
