Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Arrow snorkus delete

i want to do the snorkus delete for my 06
i know some of you have done it and was wondering if all i have to do is remove all of the pins holding the inner fender lining, remove the silencer device thing, and put the fender lining back in place.

is there more to it than this?

tia

pretty much it. There will be two bolts holding in the silencer. the one on the bottom can be a slight pain to get to, but not hard. This one of the easiest things you will do.

I also went through the extra trouble of taking the airbox out, and removing the rubber/plastic ring that's attached to the airbox that seals it to the snorkel... then used foam weatherstrip to seal the airbox to the fender. Removing that ring leaves a much larger opening for air to pass through.

Note: This was on my '05. I don't know if the '06's are the same.

the '06-'07s are the same...if you remove the thing out of your fender you'll want to also remove the rubber ring around the airbox that helps hold in the white scoop inside the airbox...

then there are a few tutorials online of how to extend the airbox to be flush with the fender well...

Does the snorkus delete really add power? Or does it just make the car sound more agressive... and wont the intake ingest water?

I dont understand why some1 would want to do this (if it added any power it cant be significant in comparrisant to the engine damage possible) or will it not do any damage?

(i just wanna learn!!)

it wont suck in water because you are removing the snorkus and the air box sits almost at the top of the engine bay...if you can splay the amount of water needed to bog the engine that high up then more power to ya haha...it's not gonna happen...you aren't modding your intake to be a real cold-air intake...you are just making it so it takes cold air from the fender without the intake being inside the fender...it sits butt against the fender wall near the top...don't worry

you should probably just get an aftermarket intake... taking out the elbow can make the air readings some what less accurate and you wont get too much sound, just spend $150 or $100 in the classifieds and get a lot more sound out of your engine

Will this snorkus delete make the car super loud. I'm sort of a classical music fan. ...sort of.. so you know, i'm just wondering if it would drown out the cabin silence. I'm really want to do this diy mod. For those who have done it, what are your initial impressions. Any slight improvements in power, mpg, etc.

Any further help and feedback would be great. Thanks.

It's louder under acceleration... but pretty silent when cruising.

On an otherwise stock engine, there's no real performance gain... Maybe 1 or 2 hp if you seal the air-box to the fender (with a bit of weatherstripping like I did) so it draws in only cool air. Then again, my butt dyno could be being fooled by the wah-wah sound under wide-open-throttle.
