Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Random oil consumption investigation: EJ25D.

I have a 260,000 mile EJ25D and I am trying to figure out where my oil is getting consumed so I think I fixed all my leaks I did a uv dye check didn't see anything recently. Also I have not touched the Head Gaskets at all and did a coolant flush recently no indications of HG leak no oil in coolant either. Also no smoke out of the tail pipe or smell of oil. But I do see at times oil coming out and appearing in the pcv hose which I did replace recently. So I am wondering what else it could be or is it just the nature of the engine just burning oil? FYI I use anywhere from .5 - 1 qt of oil each month.

Have you checked cam seals and valve covers?

I did the valve covers already got the rear main seal and air oil sep plate while getting a clutch changed. Didn't see any leaks coming out of the timing bet cover.

Oil/month not very telling; oil/thou miles, then we can be true keyboard mechanics.

And what oil, brand and grade you using? Driving style?

Edit: saw the miles on her: do compression and leak down first. Rings or valve seals gone? When it's warmed and idling take the oil fill cap off: of there's raw exhaust, rings are bye bye. "Air" out the filler tube is ok.

Sorry more like every 1,200 - 1,500 a month or so. I am doing a compression test. I used amsoil for some time and it seems to burn more than Pennzoil I ususually a few pulls but mostly normal driving 3k shifts. With Pennzoil pure plus I did like under a quart after using it at about 2,700 miles. So its a mystery.

She's prolly just tired... 0.5-1 qt./12-1500 is not tragic, IMHO, esp at 260K. Think of it as an ongoing oil change!

Try the high mileage, like QS defy, Valvoline synbelnd, pennz HM, and try a 40 grade in the HM oils, or mix xW30 and xW40 in 50:50 ratio to make ~35 grade. May help.

Did you change the PCV, or just check the hose?

Yeah I already changed the pcv hoses and the pcv already. So im thinking of just using rotella or valvoline high mileage.

Both great oils, but given consumption likely down the tail pipe, the Phosphorous(?) in rotella might kill your cat(s); try the 10W40 Valvo HM.

Yeah that's true I should avoid rotella. Hahaha I might have gotten a p420 once but it went away could have been due to rotella but maybe not.... Yeah I should just go with 10w-40 valvoline or OE amsoil (with the annual membership its not too expensive at all). Also I am going to put in a catch can just to keep track of how much oil is blowing by and prevent oil from getting burned in the cylinders.
