massive oil consumption (was: Engine Problems! Help Me)
I bought a 99 2.5rs with 48k. It still had a warrienty. There was a problem with the engine though. It had a bad gasket on the left side. So of cource it was eating up oil. We took it in and had it repaired under warrienty. About a 4 weeks later my engine had completly consumed all the oil. . By now the (date) warrrenty had expired. Subaru says its not under warrenty anymore. We would have to pay it get it inspected. If there is anything wrong they will pay. If there nothing wrong with it. I will have to spend a couple grand to get the engine put back together. Seems like im screwed. :{
Does anyone know whats wrong with my engine?
Could I do an engine swap with a legacy 2.5GT or any other scooby?

Did You find the cause of the oil consumption. I have a '99 Forester 2.5, 55,000 mi that needed a headgasket. in the following 2000 miles it has used 8 quarts of oil. What could possibly cause this? No evidence at tailpipe or on the ground. I'm desparate for help.Please reply to drose@thecarstore.net. Thanks, David

oil burning
I my MY99 2.5 RS that was burning oil. All i had to do was to replace the pressure control valve (PCV) its about 3 dollars and takes maybe 10 minutes to fix. If that isn't the problem you may need to replace valve seals. The parts again, are cheap, but you probably can't do it. I know its not something I would not touch. And the labor will drive that cost to about 400 bucks from what i heard. Hope this helps.
Long live the 2.5 RS!!!!!

Well finally a year later, I have my engine finally fixed! The main problem was my piston ring was shot. The oil was being let through and burned at a crazy rate. Subaru gave me all new pistons, head gasket, valves. So hopefully Ill be running clean for another 200,000 miles !!! It just took a whole year to figure all this out.
Thanks again for all the help!!!
