Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Quick exhaust question

I'm going to pick up an cat back system for my '02 2.5 RS and I've been debating between a 2.25 inch with a Magnaflow duel outlet or a 2.25 with a larger mouth single outlet. What kinds of sound could I expect with each system and what would you guys reccomend. I intend to mount the duel outlet parallel to the ground (straight out) or the single outlet slightly angled (N1 style). The duel outlet will be slightly more expensive than the single. Any replys are appreciated. Thanks guys!

I would go with a single tip (which I did) but mostly because the dual-tip magnaflows just don't look right on a compact car. They are spaced too far. With my custom midpipe, my muffler has a bit of an angle to it, mostly to make the pipe as short as possible. As long as you stick to 2.25" pipe, the sound from either one should be really similar.

Ban, with just the cat-back consisting of 2.25" piping and the single outlet exhaust what kind of noise increase do you think that I can expect? Will it be quite a bit louder with normal driving or will I only notice a major difference under WOT? I want it to be dimmunitive enough durring normal driving but pick up under WOT. Also I want to avoid the high pitch rice whine at all costs. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Pimp, afaik the COBB exhaust is straight out. Cheeze, I got my Magnaflow straight through muffler, single outlist and 2.25" piping from the cat back no resonator. It sounds wonderful, deep throaty, lots of good bass but it is definatly loud. WOT isn't much louder than daily driving so if that sounds like a bit much for you I would reccomend resonating it, and definatly stick to 2.25" piping. Otherwise, its wonderful.

Resonated it sounds great without being too loud. Without a resonator it still sounds good, but very loud of course

Yup. Mine is not resonated and is definitely louder at WOT, but makes plenty of noise at any RPM really. I generally avoid driving my Scoob at night now.

still loud

I have 2.25" piping, resonated mid-pipe, and a dual 3" outlet Magnaflow SS street series muffler. At school today in the parking deck I set off every car that had an alarm. Sad part is, I was only pushing about 1200 RPM's. My car sounds quiet on the inside, but darn if it must be loud on the outside. I'm sure the exhaust sound waves bouncing off the concrete walls didn't help any . Definitely go w/ a resonated mid-pipe.

I would go with a single tip (which I did) but mostly because the dual-tip magnaflows just don't look right on a compact car. They are spaced too far.
I went outside and measured the distance between the tips of my M-14815 Magnaflow and they are just 1/8" apart. Different strokes for different folks, but I would only have a dual tip on my Scooby.

Charles, how large is the can on your exhaust? I was looking at the Magnaflow site and all the specs I could find showed the tips being 3-4" apart. If I had known they were closer together...
