Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Purchasing 05 Impreza RS....

I absolutely love mine... but then again i'm upgrading from a 100hp Dodge Daytona ES. What i've found is that if you're looking for any extra power from your RS, it was just a better idea to get a WRX or STI to start with. The RS is a great car and has the pep to get you where ever you want and more, but just don't kick yourself in the **** when you think it's too slow. Besides the engine and HP ratings, almost everything about the RS is the same as the WRX.

Have you owned Subaru before or are you new to the fam.? What other cars are you looking at?

The RS engine has more displacement and a higher compression ratio than the WRX. It's a SOHC 2.5L engine with a 10:1 compression ratio. The WRX is a DOHC 2.0L engine w/ 8.5:1. The STi is a DOHC 2.5L engine w/ 8.2:1. So really, it's more like the STi. If you upgraded some parts (aftermarket... STi), you could probably exceed the power of the STi. Also, remember that the dealerships mark "extra" performance parts up ridiculously HIGH. I would say get the RS for the price and mod it up. I LOVE the STi, but with the RS it's like starting with a blank canvas. You can make it the way you want with whatever you want.

Ooooohhh k... something tells me that the total cost of upgrading an RS to the power of an STI would cost more than the STI.

That much aside. The RS can be made to have ~200hp reliably without a turbo.

To answer the initial question. I own an 04 TS (same as an 05 RS wagon), I look at it as a fun car w/more power than most 4 cyl cars in the low RPMs and it has AWD. The 05 wagon can't get the sport package to improve handeling but the sedan can't hold as much cargo

I just got a new 2005 Impreza RS... I loved it from day 1.... handles really well. Like the others have said, it is a canvas for a project car.... good base to work from.

I would have liked to get the WRX or the STI.... but they were alittle out of my range.... I am happy tho with my purchase...

Good luck with purchasing yours and hope you enjoy as well as I.
