It'll be between 50 and 60 bucks and the stem should be done tomorrow. I'll post some pics if it is.
...and yea they said they can make more, and the more they made the cheaper it would be. Mine actually cost a little more because they didn't have a 20mm X 1.5 die sitting around. Luckily I found a local place that could special order them and it only cost me $12.
Anyway I'll keep you posted OK.

OK, I just got the stem. It cost me $65, but actually cost the machine shop like $100 to make it because the die in the pic was so big they had to make a special holder for it. Also they used 4140 steel which is much stouter then the OE stem. The way we measured the difference in length was to measure the filter face depths (2nd pic). To lower the price I would have to get 5 or more ordered at the same time. The guy there said he would stay at $65 though because they still have the dieholder. The die I bought is good for about twelve of them before needing a new die. Anyway I'm hesitant to get anymore made till I get this one installed to make sure it will work. I'm gonna try for this weekend, but I'm having trouble locating the torque value for for the stem. I may nave to sneak into Subaru to get a look at the shop manuals
As soon as I know it will work we can see who wants them OK, and Hash25rs I haven't forgotten about ya.

Strange- the filter you show on the left is actually for the USDM STi. I wonder how they managed to screw that up? "They" being the manufacturer that botched their fitment.

I noticed that too, but not only does the STI use that type I believe the H-6 does as well, and yes it's strange indeed. The cool thing is owners of 2.5 turbos or H-6s can probably just put a M1 filter on with no fuss.
I don't know that I would say they botched fitment. I think it was done intentionally because for all of us with 2.5s or 2.0s we have to use purolators whether direct from Suby or through the aftermarket. I know Bostch makes one that works, but other then that our choices are limited.
Unless your speaking of the M1 filter then I'd have to agree. It would of made my life easier if they made them with the same specs as the Purolators.

At first Dealers were told that the Std filter was OK to use but now they have been told that this is not the case the xxx80 68mm filter must be used. While an 80mm filter may fit it's not the right one.

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner. Well I tried to change the stem over last weekend and it didn't fit the idiot at Subaru sold me the wrong one. I should have suspected something because he didn't seem very bright to me,
however the guy that helped me tonight was he took back the one I bought, but I'm still out $65 for the one I had made on top of that I guess the 04's have a different stem or Union as they call it because that part isn't even in the country yet. So now plan B I have to try and use the stem from my car which is not going to be very convenient to say the least since I have only one car. This Friday I have off so I'm going to take the stem off and have a friend drive me over to the machine shop to let them get the dimensions then put it back on the car and wait for them to make me another one. The only conselation is at least I have the die. Wish me luck.

Finally, I finally got the right union made. The machinist actually took that bigger one I had made and milled it down to the one below on the left. The OE union is the black one on the right which doesn't look anything like the one that the boneheads at Subaru sold me. I can't help it I'm still bent about that. The machinist kinda laughed when I told him the story and said if it only has to be done over once your doing pretty good. It only cost $38 to modify it because I think partially he felt bad, and also because they didn't have to remill the flats (the hex part of the union) apparently that takes a while. By the way the difference in length was 3/8". I'm not actually sure how much one would be to have made from scratch, but I figure around $60.
