Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

GOOD CHOICE! The CGs are just plain beautiful. I've had one for just over two years now and I absolutely love it. Anywho, some things to keep in mind:

You might have to pay over blue book value depending on your location, as they can be pretty rare (I know I did). Expect to pay somewhere between 9K for a really good deal to 11K. The condition/milage on the engine may or may not be important depending on what you plan on doing with it, ie a WRX engine swap. If you plan on turbocharging the engine (generally not worth the $) get a 98 RS as it has a compression ratio slightly better suited to forced induction apps, otherwise go with a 99-01 RS.

The 99s have a problem with their MAF sensors, and Subaru issued a recall on that part. Chances are the previous owner will have already had that taken care of, but if any Subaru dealship should do it for free. Other than that I've never had an issue with my car. The handling is a GEM, and it only improves with aftermarket goodies. Good luck!

I had few problems with my 01 RS. (nothing Major)
1. missfire that happened twice (replaced my spark plugs, and it went fine)
2. Right rear wheel bearing went bad on 36K miles (dealer replaced it free)
3. blown a fuse in guage cluster (replaced and had it fixed right away)
4. sometimes it feels slow...(or most of the time)

cool things....
1. you get alot of attention.
2. you'll find your self laughing at people coz they think youre riding a WRX.
3. well, it is rare....
