Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Question Intake Install Inquiry

My Cobb CAI finally arrived yesterday, after 8 weeks of waiting. So today after work I go to install the Cobb, and before I even touch the stock intake I notice a problem. The stock airbox on my 2000 Impreza L has a sensor or something plugged into the front of it, but Cobb's instructions don't make any mention of it. What is this thing, and what do I do with it? Will I get CELs if I unplug it? Any help would be appreciated.

I believe its necessary to determine how rich the mixture is, and if you dont somehow rig it, u'l actually lose performance. I believe its for the airflow sensor. I read somewhere how someone rigged it between the new intake and where it enters the engine thing. GL

Unhappy

After searching wrxforums.com, I discovered that it is an air temperature sensor. I ordered the intake for a 2000 Impreza, and apparently the 2.5 doesn't have the sensor, but the 2.2 does. So I'm thinking that rather than screwing around trying to exchange pipes with Cobb, I should be able to just drill a hole for the sensor in the pipe. Has anyone ever done this?

For those of you who have done this, what size should the hole be? I'm thinking 3/4" or 7/8". Also, should I re-use the grommet? Thanks for the help.
