Go to your local muffler shop. Get something straight through with no louvers. have them fabricate you a 2.25 or 2.5 pipe (mandrel bent please if at all possible) spend less then 200 bucks on the piping muffler and tip. Feel the power and hear the sound. Pat yourself on the back for doing it yourself (well not really but doing it the non monkey see monkey do way at least) and not spending buku $$$$

"Good enough" is pretty subjective. I've taken a look at several brand name cat back systems for our car and others and decided that I'd save the approx. $200 extra that it would take for a brand name system. I'm quite happy with my mandrel bend 2.25" pipe and Magnaflow muffler. Sounds just as good as anything out there, the wends are phenomenal (albet is dependent on your local shop), and its warrenteed locally. Call me crazy but that sounds like a better deal.

there is this one place around boston that EVERYONE goes to for custom exaust.(Probably because its the ONLY custom exaust shop around)anyway..... I asked the guy if he could mandrel bend me a 2.25 cat back. so he says" I dont have a manrel pipe bender, but my bender doesnt put any kinks in it or anything"
how important is it really to be mandrel bent? I know that mandrel bending eliminates any shrinking in diameter at a bend in the pipe. But how important is it really? sound wise? power wise?

Other than mandrel bending, what can be done with a custom exhaust is just for the maker to get pieces of pre-bent pipes and weld them together to make the exhaust. That works, but it ends up with alot of extra welds (and possible leaks) and doesnt look as nice and tidy.

The intake RalliTek sells loses power compared to a stock. The Cobb is hands down the best, although the PDM intkae has a better bang for the buck ratio. Pretty much any equal-length headers and straight through muffler combo will give good gains. Chose based on your preferences for looks and sound.

why does the rallitek lose power? Its larger piping and a higher flow filter. Is it cause it draws air from the engine bay? If so would a heat shield or some other method to bring cool air help?

hey, I have the issue of owning a 98 RS....and there seems to be VERRY few intakes for sale out there. I dont know what it is about MAF that makes it difficult to make an intake, but the only one I have seen is a bolt on filter AFTER the MAF sensor.
I am still searching for a better intake than this. anyone know of any for the DOHC?
does the apexi air/fuel meter come with a sensor that you mount or what? how does it monitor the air/fuel better without a better sensor?

Rallitek's short ram is a sub-par intake. Although any short ram is in my opinion. Don't waste your money.
