Go to your local muffler shop. Get something straight through with no louvers. have them fabricate you a 2.25 or 2.5 pipe (mandrel bent please if at all possible) spend less then 200 bucks on the piping muffler and tip. Feel the power and hear the sound. Pat yourself on the back for doing it yourself (well not really but doing it the non monkey see monkey do way at least) and not spending buku $$$$

You pay for the names.
You pay for quality. Not all of us are happy with merely good enough. I've had Greddy and custom BTW.

"Good enough" is pretty subjective. I've taken a look at several brand name cat back systems for our car and others and decided that I'd save the approx. $200 extra that it would take for a brand name system. I'm quite happy with my mandrel bend 2.25" pipe and Magnaflow muffler. Sounds just as good as anything out there, the wends are phenomenal (albet is dependent on your local shop), and its warrenteed locally. Call me crazy but that sounds like a better deal.

all I know is all the muffler shops round here don't have mandrel benders so I am not having an exhaust made locally.

Other than mandrel bending, what can be done with a custom exhaust is just for the maker to get pieces of pre-bent pipes and weld them together to make the exhaust. That works, but it ends up with alot of extra welds (and possible leaks) and doesnt look as nice and tidy.

get a stage 1 from rallitek (I've got it and it rocks) and get headers too for almost nothing

The intake RalliTek sells loses power compared to a stock. The Cobb is hands down the best, although the PDM intkae has a better bang for the buck ratio. Pretty much any equal-length headers and straight through muffler combo will give good gains. Chose based on your preferences for looks and sound.

why does the rallitek lose power? Its larger piping and a higher flow filter. Is it cause it draws air from the engine bay? If so would a heat shield or some other method to bring cool air help?

I am still searching for a better intake than this. anyone know of any for the DOHC?

does the apexi air/fuel meter come with a sensor that you mount or what? how does it monitor the air/fuel better without a better sensor?
Depends on how much work you want to do. You can modify a Cobb or Injen. Injen actually makes an intake for the 99, so it might just bolt on?

Rallitek's short ram is a sub-par intake. Although any short ram is in my opinion. Don't waste your money.
