Flowmasters?

Since I do quite a bit of driving, actually a lot of driving I am concerned how bad this exhaust is going to annoy me in a couple weeks when I get the Borla Headers and the Random Tech cat. And although when I do cat back this in a couple weeks I really do think I will add a resonator instead although I don't want to. I don't think I could deal with a long drive with the overpowering rumble for 6+ hours. I just saw last night the funniest thing ever. A brand new Range Rover with a big chrome rice rocket muffler sticking out the back.

I have the borla headers with everything else stock and it is not loud at all, barely rumbly but not whiny like the stock setup was. Plus I can notice mid to top end improvement. When you get your cat back, go up to like 2.25" and the headers with the resonator and it might tone down a bit. I was hoping to go with this setup myself. What are the proportions on your muffler, or better yet the serial # on it? I want to get the 40w/delta. My friend put a 60 series with custom cat-back 1/4" bigger on the pipes on his Land Cruiser and you could barely hear it. He was dissapointed because he wanted it to sound meaner.

I don't have the box anymore but the flowmaster 40 series that I got was a 2.25" straight in and 2.25" straight out. I think the sound will get more rumbly as i open up with the exhaust and headers. Im not sure if I will get a random tech cat...better things to do with 350 bucks

I finally cat backed my flowmaster about an hour ago with no resonators with 2.25" aluminized piping and its purely intrusive. It sounds so deep when around 2800-3200 rpm's and i get nothing but looks. It does sound a bit tinny but I am sure I will get used to it. It will definately be noisy for long drives though for sure. I love it and gained some good mid power and a tad on the upper end. I havent' found out truly since just in 35 zones so far. Time to go find the open roads later.

What is "Tinny"? Does is sound just like air going through? Because you'll get that sound with the headers also. A lot of the posts regarding the Borla headers talk about the awsome sound, but I was kind of let down because all I really hear is air going through, but at least it's not as whinny as stock. So does the flowmaster sound the same? What are you going to go with?

I went back to my straight through OBX muffler that I had pulled off for the flowmaster. I got the deep rumbling sound that I was hoping to get. Tinny as in it sounded a little high pitch at times and almost as if metal was rattling against other things. Paid 90 for it now just going to sell it to a friend for 30 to pay for cost of welding up old muffler again. The flowmaster wasn't the same sound now with headers. It sounded more powerful but it had the sound as if almost thin if that makes sense. Is there someone else that can explain "Tinny" a little better here than me?

i purchased a full exhaust system from easystreet.. i noticed the flowmaster muffler .. and asked why they choose flowmaster .. they said they dyno'd and flowmaster performed just as well as the others . im sure it has a lot to do with the profit margin too . in any case easystreet has the fastest WRX in the world and its running with the exact same exaust system

I don't have the WRX and it just seemed quite restrictive on my car though. Maybe it works a little better on the WRX but I sure don't know if it does. All I know is that its sitting in the corner of my room as what I think will be scrap metal when im motivated enough to take out the trash.

Before you dump it, maybe try getting a resonator on it. It can make a world of difference in the sound. I'm mounting a Magnaflow in a week or 2 without one, but I may end up adding it.

I already have a straight through muffler that is Stainless Steel already mounted up with no resonators on it. It sounds pretty good but I think the advantage of the stainless steel for exhaust will add it deeper sounding. As for the flowmaster muffler it is sitting in the corner of my room and collecting dust. I am moving hopefully by friday and although its no problem I just don't want it anymore really. I guess my loss is your gain. I really liked the sound of my buddies Blitz axle back so tempted to get one and go with stromung ss midpipe. In that case I would sell my current exhaust for next to nothing again. What sounds good for the flowmaster....um say $40 ? any takers?

my buddy has a blitz exhaust and I can tell the difference and we have virtually same set up except for he has high flow cat. I can really tell that his is much deeper sounding where mine is a tad high pitched because of thickness of the exhaust piping I believe. some days mine is rumbly and other days its not. Perplexes me, but I guess my impulsive buying sends me down the path of going stainless steel for exhaust.
