I have an EJ22, and I can tell you that even if I swapped from A/T to an M/T, it is not going to change the fact that it's only got 133bhp. With that in mind, if you are not going to spend the money to do an EJ205, EJ255, EJ257, or an EJ207, then I would personally go with an EJ25 swap from an RS. It will be far more worth your time/money invested as opposed to an EJ22 swap. That's my opinion at least.

You would be running the EJ25 ecu, so you should go with the RS 5spd, which is like a 3.90, or was it a 4.11? I can't remember. Either way, I think it's different from the earlier 93-96 5spd's, so you'd just want to look for the entire motor, ECU, and drivetrain from a 98-01 RS
