Old thread ~ But, I ran the HKS (yes, the same number as the Nissan) for 12 months with great results ~ then I went short-ram anyway, just for the engine bling (to be honest).

I want the "bling" of a short ram too, but i feel like i should know better by now.. It would have to be the Cobb, as I'm doing Cobb whenever possible.
Do they make a heat sheild you can get for the short rams?

Of course they make heat shields for SRIs! However, a good general design makes it somewhat moot.
Anyway, from what I understand, K&N are the cheapest, Paper filters the most.
However, has anyone tried those new nanomesh filters which are supposedly comparable to the filter power of paper but are rechargeable?
Remember, generally with greater flow through the filter, more stuff will get through. That's what I hear anyway...

I noticed you have a WRX. It's generally not a good idea to have intakes on a turbo'd Subaru...

wow,.. back from the dead.. lols.
well about the hks filter,.. i've noticed an increase in torque. i remember when I first installed it,.. i felt my car lost 20 hp and all its torque. But then i remembered that i had to reset my ecu, so i did. When I drove afterwards, my car pulled real hard, even my friends noticed! The throttle response was good and it made me enjoy staying in heavy traffic because i get to have the sudden pull. I got a 4eat btw. It has this nice distinctive sound too,.. fuel economy was the same but oh well.
but yeah, that was almost a year ago, now I got a Weapon R Secret Weapon intake and its helllla fiine.

i removed all the extra intake piping that hides within the passenger side front fender, and replaced the air filter with a Wix air filter. i've noticed no real difference. i have not inspected it at all either.
but, removing the extra intake piping made QUITE a difference in power, in the positive nature.
i'll remove and inspect the air filter soon and report back (with pix if anyone is interested).

I was running a perrin foam filter for a while but honestly could not feel the difference now I am running a perrin short ram and will wait till I get my tune to give a verdict on that but it sure does sound cool woooosh!

Well I'm changing my vote. I recently removed my airbox to wrap it in foil to quell some radiant heating issues and noticed that there was in fact some fine dirt in the throttlebody. I'm not too happy about that. I'm going to switch over to a True Flow foam filter and see how it works. So we'll see.

OK since Trueflow doesn't make the right size filter for my RS I was wondering if anyone out there could do me a huge favor and measure their HKS filter for me. There seems to be two common sizes for our cars. One about 11" wide (which is what the Trueflow is and another (the one I need) about 14.5" wide.
Any help is appreciated.
