well cams....if your a newbie to mods and impreza's you should worry about other things first before cams. what kind of car do u drive? what other mods do u have? your car will benefit ALOT better with aftermarket cams AFTER you have made other mods.
with cobb tuning's street performer cams your looking at +19 HP gains from just STOCK. with a full headers back exaust and a decent intake your lookin at ALOT more then iether one by themself. good thing about performance mods is that one mod usualy increases performance on other parts as well =) (not to mention puts more stress on your drivetrain) good luck and keep reading

my bad..... 03 2.5 rs.......o yea. well the thing is....when your messing with the internals on your engine(the heart of the beast) you dont want to ***** foot around with the best prices and crap....dont shop around, cobb tuning is the best subaru tuning company there is HANDS DOWN. As far as prices go other places are cheaper. but you could always ask them who makes thier part your gona buy....if its not a COBB part....look for it cheaper somewhere else =)

Allow me to point a few things out.
It's all about HP/dollar. For 500 bucks you can't do better than COBB cams. If I had known what the improvement would be I would have done them first not last like I did.
I don't agree with NastyIMpreza on one major point.
His first post was incorrect. As a general rule of thumb, high performance parts DON'T compound power gains. In fact, usually they're not even cumulative. If so, then I have a 218+HP 2.5RS and I REALLY REALLY DOUBT it.
Some advice:
*Don't buy an underdrive pulley like the UR pulley. Buy the three pulley kit. I have the UR and wish I had the other setup. They cost the same, but the three pulley kit frees up a lot more weight, looks WAY cooler, and doesn't cause your lights to dim as bad as the UR pulley.
*Look ahead. Where do you want to go? If you plan for turbo don't do something dumb like replace your cams first. COBB will custom grind you a cam for your turbo setup for a MINIMAL charge. Don't buy an expensive CAI if you're going to go turbo. That's just wasted money.
*Ask more than one person.
*Take the advice of guys who have actually done it. Preferably smart guys who have a clue (This is not an insult to anyone)
*Don't buy the first thing you see without shopping around.
*BE SAFE. IF you go with a turbo or nitrous make sure you have the tuning ability to keep your engine safe. Running on the ragged edge of safety will get you a hefty repair bill
*DRIVE SAFE. Live to enjoy it.

mods help other mods
well i guess i wasnt precise enough with that statement. but think about it.....your engine is a giant air pump with one job.....push the crankshaft and power the wheels. if you have only an exaust system...or only an intake you will see minimal power gains. but with both of them combined it puts your horsepower up by far more then it would with intake and say, a pulley kit. your engine will have less stress on it from the pulleys, but without the free air movment it wont take advantage of moving all the air you get in from the intake, OUT the exaust. And remember...the less crap your engine has to hall around...the faster your car will be......10 lbs = about 1 horsepower
