bad news bears
only 3 cylinders working,, the one that isnt is only gettin 40 lbs of compression while the other ones are gettin the normal amount.. dealer says need to pull heads off, so im deciding to swap the heads, but they said its inside the heads, what could that possibly be so i know something, cuz i dont know nuthin about much of this kind of stuff, anyways let me know, and this is on a 99 rs with only 68k..

Perhaps they have a borescope or other way to confirm it just isn't a bunch of carbon preventing a valve from closing completely? That seems like the best news you could get. Everything else is some kind of bad-horrible situation.

Only thing inside the heads is the camshaft and valvetrain. Along with water jackets and oil passages.
Do you know what cylinder is gone(although it may not matter)? Or rather a power balance test? Also did they do a a leak down test? Because it is possible to have poor compression and good leakage readings.
If it's only compression it is probably worn lifters or cam lobes, maybe springs, on that cylinder.
It's probably not both, but if it is it could maybe be the rings or the piston or cylinder itself.
Whatever it is good luck and keep us posted.
