2001 2.5 Hesitates when accelerating.

Hello folks,
I have had My 2001 2.5 RS since new and have had ZERO Problems until this weekend.
The Car has 85,000 miles on it Yep 85,000 in 3 years. It has run on Mobil 1 Synthetics since 750 miles. Perfect maintenance.
Mods are Intake, Flowmaster exhust as far as engine goes and many in suspension looks etc.
The Problem just started out of the blue. When I go to accelerate the car Hesitates a couple of times and themn goes, like a misfire but no back fire nothing just a few total lags in the motor and then we are off to the races as normal.
I Replaced the Fuel filter sunday but that did not help. My next Idea is the spark plug wires howver they are $64 so I wanted to see if any one had any theories. Could it be my Coil going out, Crank position sensor etc?
I think the car "Burt" has been hearing the wife's and mine plans to trade it in on a STI in January, so it has it out for me.
One thing I can say is that this is the only dcar I have ever owned that has gone 85,000 with zero problems, Not even a light bulb.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, The car is warmed up and unfortunatly it does it at any temperature.
In order to check The wires what would I do?
Would I put a ohm meter at each end and check for Ohms? Would various length wires create different readings, and what would be a good reading?
If It is the wires any recomendation on better after market ones. Since the Bosch ones I am thinking of are $65 for 4 I would like to think there may be something Better out there.
Oh P.S. I take it you are from Britain, Me to, Ascot. But moved to the states 20 years ago. My Cousin has a euro spec STI and if very upset that I am getting the U.S> Spec STI. His days of one upsmanship are drawing to a end.

id check the wires next...is it giving you a cel? if it ever does its probably best to stop driving immediately...something happened to my moms highlander...she drove 30 miles w/a CEL and a chewed up spark plug wire...turned into a costly problem, and a major inconvinience. good luck

Now onto being helpful:
I'd try doing the single point grounding modification... this has been known to help with hesitation... Try this and see if you still need the plug wires... A simple search should get you some results on the grounding mod.

you need to get the latest reflash for your ecu.and at the same time you will need a new air/fuel ratio sensor.if you reflash without the new sensor, the orignal sensor will fail.go to www.mysubaru.com and check to see if your car is available for the recall on this.
