Subaru 6 speed - best tranny ever !

the evo can get more power from the block then the 2.5, but the tranny in the evo cannot handle it

I got my STi for the transmission alone

what is max power and durability with ej25 before you worry? Just boltons? Turbo swapping? At what point do you worry. do you ever have to worry about the tranny in STI?
Tired of mitsu and there tranny excuses!!!!!!
thanks for the reply.

No he means the STI. The stock turbo and injectors are basicaly maxed to performance... plus why would ya want to go anymore on STOCK stuff...bla! Bigger turbo and injectors!..lol

I love my sti. I used to have an 03' wrx... People told me that the tranny was made of glass... I NEVER had a problem with the car... but I also never dumped the clutch, I don't do stupid crap like that in my car. So far my sti is awesome. Love the power, but I think it's pretty slow now, that or I am just used to it, so I need to get it tuned and put my tbe back on.

On some earlier STi's there's problems with the shocks in the rear. Something about losing lubrication, then the backend starts sticking and getting noisy. I have this problem with my 04 STi.

Nitrous oxide should NOT be used on an STi with stock pistons. The casting process used makes them highly susceptible to the kind of detonation nitrous produces. Detonation on gas = bad. Det with nitrous = catastrophic.

03blueevo8, the STi responds VERY well to bolt-ons and tuning, and moderate turbo upgrades. It's when you start going nuts and aiming for 450+ whp that it starts giving way to the Evo motor. Just the nature of the manifold design. If you want 300-350 whp though, it's perfect.

Dude you should be happy. This is one of the few times when Mitsu will acknowledge a problem and are willing to fix it. The 5th gear grind is a problem on some 03's. I personally don't have it. They fixed the problem for 04. A 5th gear grind doesn't mean the tranny is weak. There are people running low 10's on a completely stock tranny, so it will definitely get the job done. If you want to trade in you EVO for an STI find a better reason than the tranny because the tranny is awesome. If I was going to trade mine in on an STI it would be for that boxer rumble. Sounds bad ***.
