turbo creep???

So this morning I was going about 90 in 5th and the temp was about 40. All this combined equaled my boost guage shooting to 20 psi and the check engine light came on.
I am currently running Cobb AP stage 2, helix v3 downpipe, helix cat-back, STi intercooler, and K&N typhoon.
This is the second time this has happened in two weeks. Is this turbo creep, and if so what should I do to avoid it happening again. I dont want to have to replace anything if I dont have to.
Also, if the psi is over or at 20psi, how bad is that for the stock bpv?

yes, it is boost creep....get used to it....

you shouldn't be running 20+ psi on the stock turbo, the stock bpv assuming same as previous years will blowby at those pressures.

the ONLY real fix for boost creep is:

1) Port the wastegate on the turbo

or

2) External Wastegate setup, although its a bit overkill & will need custom tuning

or

3) throw a restriction in the exhaust like a high flow cat

the stock BPV will not leak at those pressures, its the same as the STI BPV and the STI can be boosted to 20 with no problems with the stock BPV, you could port the wastegate port on the turbo, or run an external wastegate, but i suggest getting re-tuned, there are people out there that tune the AP's really well. As fas as putting in a high flow cat, that will just create more pressure, which you dont want, boost creep is cause by the wastegate not venting enough pressure into the exhaust causeing the turbo to still spool, now if you put a cat in there its just going to be another restriction and possibly cause more of the same problem your having

hey Forrest, it never occurred to me but Cobb's off the shelf maps dont support any aftermarket intakes...that might also give you some problems

1) my stock bpv leaked at just over 19psi....I'm sure none will fail at exactly the same pressures....the STi BPV is the same one the 2.0L WRX uses as well.

2) FACT: a high flow cat WILL reduce the potential of boost creep. A restriction in exhaust will lessen the pressure differential across the wastegate PREVENTING boost creep. This is why catless setups generally have more issues with boost creep especially w/ the '06 WRX & all STi's.

3) Tuning will only mask the boost creep issue, not solve it.

I think I would rather go with an aftermarket turbo then spend the money to PnP the "huge" stock turbo. I am going to get a tune once Mike gets set up at his new shop. I just wont go WOT throttle anymore, as much.

Follow what these guys said and switch your realtime map to the Stage 2 LWG for the time being.

LWG = Low waste gate

you use this option if you are running over desired boost. if you were underboosting, you'd wanna use the HWG map.

unfortunately Cobb, in a moment of idiocy, and although claiming to still fully support the original cobb AP, has failed to put any info on the old AP, or any downloadable maps for the old AP, on their new website
