Some intro power mods?
Every once in a while I get a hankering to try some modest power mods on my 2009 wrx. Something like a DP and a custom tune . Is this still a viable base setup? What DPs and tunes are people using nowadays on the 08-11s?
For the DP, I'm looking for something with a high-flow cat that hooks up to the stock exhaust (highly prefer to keep outward appearance stock).
For the tune, I don't expect to be switching maps a lot, just want something with a bit more oomph and stays safe and reliable.
Probably can't do the work myself either (no space, no tools, no time, c'est la vie), so a highly-recommended one-stop-shop near the bay area would be good.
Thanks!

your wrx comes as a fast car as is...but modding this thing will be awesome! i honestly keepimg your stock cat-back isnt worth it, just do a full turboback exhaust. you will love the sound and you can find an exhaust that will look very similar to the stock one. as far as tuning i would recommend the Cobb Ap, it allows you switch between maps and check engine codes if you ever have any issues, also it gives you live data of your engine. and a custom tune will take it over the top giving you more power and also some good driveability, good luck man
Nobody likes the tuna here

The 09 if I can recall is single for the catback correct? Yeah you could use your stock and mate a DP with a 3-2.5" adapter, but I don't know how well that would flow, if anything try to get a subtle catback that's quiet and with a catted DP it will be quiet, I just swapped to one and omg, night and day difference, people don't recognize my car. If youre looking for a inexpensive solution, get a CNT catted downpipe, I know LGTMark here is selling one and anything from an 05-09 legacy gt will fit your car also. Tuning wise get an Accessport or an opensource tune by a reputable local tuner of your choice. Where do you live? If you want to come out to the coast, I can help you out on a day off for something small in exchange and seriously once you see how these cars work, its almost legos to work with. Lemme know PM me anytime. BTW since you're an 09, power gains on the VF52 are totally difference from any other stock turbo, it gains a **** ton.
I have an 09 sedan with a Perrin downpipe and a Torqued Performance Stage 2 on the Accessport. Runs way smoother than the Perrin stg 2 map.
As far as fitment with the DP, I would thing a 3 to 2.5 adapter would work out just fine. For awhile I was running the Perring mid-pipe and factory mufflers (which reminds I need to get those looked at) but everything fit just fine.
If you haven't made it over to 3GWRX, check it out, it's a forum specific to the 08+s
