Question about 155mph limiter
Question about 155mph limiter
What causes the 155mph limiter? I'm in the military and last year I moved to Germany and exported my '04 USDM STI here. When I run Nurburgring I hit the limiter on the backstretch and the jolting it causes nearly makes me shart myself. Last August I was driving home from WRC Germany in Trier and got into a speed contest with a EuroSpec STI on the autobahn. I was pulling from him up until the point I hit the 155mph limiter. At which point he cruised past me at about 165mph. So obviously the 2.0L versions are not limited or he found a way to defeat it. I have e-mailed TXS but they will not reply to my e-mails.
I am running a TXS UTEC (Stage II Map) and yesterday ran the logger until I hit 155mph on the autobahn. The logger looks like there is a serious fuel cut at 5950RPM (I'f you want me to post up the data, let me know). Does anyone know if the limiter can be defeated on the UTEC?

I think there are some different "fuel cut eliminator" devices out there. They aren't commonly used in the states because you have to reach the speed limiter in order to change it, which is hard/illegal here
EDIT: you can probably remove the limiter with OpenECU, a free ECU editing software, but first make sure you know what you're doing

I'm not an expert with the computer thing. I can figure stuff out pretty quick but screwing with the ECU/ UTEC gets me a little sketchy without supervision or someone with the proper know-how. I would really just like to know what causes it and if it can be defeated. I have never really seen this topic come up on the boards.
I don't think it has anything to do with the Boost, Fuel or Ignition maps in the UTEC. I'm thinking that when the car gets near the speed limiter, The UTEC knows to switch back to the stock ECU to hit the limiter. The maps I have loaded up right now e.g the boost map switches from [375] to [0] at the higher R's and the logger reads from 375 to ECU meaning it has switched the boost map back to the ECU for the limiter.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Have you tried contacting TurboXS? They would know exactly what it would take to bypass the speed limiter on the ECU for all of the UTEC models, if it can be done.

you can change the speed limiter with Enginuity & ECUFlash, all you need to do is order a tactrix cable from www.tactrix.com & download Enginuity from www.enginuity.org & Ecuflash from www.openecu.org .
Read you ROM image w/ ECUFlash & modify w/ Enginuity. Write the modded map back to the ECU using ECUFlash.
