Oil Consumption issues, need advice!! [update] Cracked Turbo.

So I have been experiencing some oil consumption issues with my 04 STi.

Here's a quick synopsis of my cars history, I had a new short block and turbo installed from the dealership at ~60,000 after piston 3 was cracked, I had MAJOR oil consumption issues that tipped it off, they installed the new motor with an out of round piston on cylinder 1, I drove with this piston for 3,000 miles. I wanted a new short block, they just put in new piston in cylinder 1. After about 35 trips to the dealership all issues had been fixed (I hope!).

In December I installed a Cobb catted downpipe with stage 2 engine management. at that time I had 25,000 miles on the new motor. I only have 3,000 miles left on my warranty so time is of the essence here. My motor is NOT smoking, nor do I smell major oil burning through my exhaust.

My question to all is this, If you have a similar setup are you experiencing oil blowback through the turbo, and if so what are the remedies for this?? I really hope is is not my motor, but if it is I need to get on it fast!

Well after 2000+ miles of Oil Consumption tests, it has been concluded that my Turbo is Cracked, and all of this oil consumption, about two quarts every 1000 miles is going through the turbo, the work is being warrantied, so I gets a new Turbo!

Explain excessive oil consumption amount over time or miles, also sounds wierd to me if they put in an out of round piston and you drove it for any length of time wouldnt it eventually wear the cylinder out of round even over the short duration? Dealershps are famous for trying to save a buck. IMO you should hav been given a new block. If block is ok maybe its a cracked turbo and its burning off at the turbo where it is really hot which would make less smoke and smell. Just throwing some possible scenarios out there

Well I burned through just over 3 quarts in 2200 miles. No oil light or anything. Didn't even hear knocking until then, I heard a nasty knocking, and I put the oil in much to my dismay that it needed 3 quarts. i have been checking regularly since and its about 1 quart per 1200 miles. A mechanic friend said it was probably coming through oil feeder lines to turbo... But I can't take to dealership until I pull my DP off

Yea I wouldnt even play with it. Pull the DP remove the AP and bring it in especially that close the the end of the warranty. You should not be burning that much oil.

The dealerships class excessive oil consumption as more than 1qt per 1,000 miles, from the sounds of it you have excessive consumption and something needs to be fixed.

Ha! I noticed the heat from under my car today when I got to work, sure enough i checked the oil and there was not more than a drop on the stick. Luckily I keep some oil in the trunk. From what I understand this is a major issue with our year STI, it's sad really, I don't know what I'd do if i lost my baby. I try to top off the oil every week or so but this hasn't been the first time I've went to check it and had little/none. Good luck though man, if u still have the warranty I'd try to get what u can!!
