missing oil
missing oil
have an 04 STI with about 15k. In the last 3000 miles I have had to add 3 quarts!? I have no leaks and I do not notice any white, black, or blue smoke. I did notice a little oil dusted on my intake hoses but none sitting in my fmic. If any one has any info, please help. -Confused?
try checking the oil hoses that go to the turbo. one of my friends had a problem like that with a car that he had a while black and it was kinda hard to figure out because no oil was actually getting on the turbo, so it was not burning. I could be totaly wrong, but its worth a try.

obviously you are losing it somewhere. I suggest a compression test / leak down. When I had a similar problem I was at 100 100 140 140. Haven't pulled the heads yet but I'm guessing busted ring lands. I had similar symptoms to yours. good luck.
I'm interested as well. My sti has less than 15k mi on it, always Mobil 1 at 3k intervals. One day I was heading home and driving fairly hard and noticed it was starting to make some light tapping noises from the engine... a full quart low.
within limits?
I went to my local Subaru dealer for a warranty claim, they told me that as long as I am not going through more than 1 quart of oil every thousand miles I am still within Subaru's set limits of oil consumption!? Any thoughts on this?

Depends how much you are going thru. I just got done dropping a new shortblock in My STi. Ringlands were shot in 2 & 4.

Well it is a turbo motor and they do tend to have more blowby. I was going thru about 1qt / 1000 miles before it got worse and I did a compression test.
Compression test is pretty cheap insurance, you can even do one yourself if you want.
Even when I was burning a LOT of oil there wasn't much smoke to give it away.

Get them to do a compression check. If bad cylinder walls are the culprit (more likely than broken rings if you're not down on power) then you'll be getting a rebuild regardless of how much oil it's actually losing.
