There are a gazillion posts on this subject w/a search. The stock box is not a restriction till up to 400 HP & is a cold air intake. IMO get the silencer delete & HKS panel filter (better off spend your money on effective mods instead of a CAI" An intake will only give you more noise basically & I wouldnt recommend one if your not doing engine management to tune to the intake.

or you could just get an aps 65mm cai its designed work perfectly w/ the stock EM. but i ditto the stock airbox personally i would go w/ the "STi" panel filter though its a step up from your stock one even if you have an STi u can get it drom any dealer or order it from SPT online but its actually cheaper on japanparts.com. best part is its considered a stock part so its good for warranty.

I'd go with the SPT one. Might be more money but you know its been developed to be compatible with the car and everything. If anything does go wrong, return the car to completely stock except the intake and bring it in

oh yeah, and Cobb APs are not intake friendly. Says so on all the map notes. I'd leave the intake off until you can get a protune. And all SPT parts are warranty friendly I believe, so you'll buy them

i got the spt one and i like it. it sounds pretty awesome and its carb legal( it comes with a carb legal sticker) so the cops cant mess with you for it.

Do a search about the SPT intake/short ram first & you may change your mind. Theres problems w/heat soak (even w/a heatshield) & less performance. Cobb has posted their maps are compatible w/short rams. Spend your money on effective mods TBE & AP STAGE 2. If your worried about warranty friendly mods, I hate to inform you AP is not "warranty friendly".

Like it was said above if you are not running close to 400whp. Keep you stock intake and get a high flow drop in filter. You maf sensor will run cooler and will less likely experience heat soak.

Put your money into better mods. Like DP and Exhaust and have it tunned.

what is an ap stage 2? second thing is i just drive the car around, i do nnot do anything like racing with it. so does the "heat soak" reall y make a difference. and the accesport, does anyone check to see if things are changed. what i have ever seen is someone just visually looking at something. besides i got that subaru performance mag in the mail and they have this write up about them in there the spt.

heat soak does make a difference. it makes the ecu pull timing up the ****. I have a SPT intake on my car. I would rather go with the cobb intake because its plastic and wont heat soak as much but its not carb legal.

exactly how much performance is ther lost like what a hp or 2, is this something that ypou will only see in a dyno plot. the only thing that really seems different since i have it on is the fact i can here the bov, the whole time not just when it pops off, because i know it does get pretty hot under there, even now in the winter, all i can think of is there is less ducting for the air to flow through, and other then the intercoller it is mostly round tubing, air flows more efficintly through round ducting then square.
so how does this short ram intake not work when the dyno sits there in a garage and they run the car on it. there is no air move ment there under the hood and the show positive effects of the ram intake. when you are driving there is way more air movement under the hood so i do not get it.

The metalic intake gets hot from the heat of the turbo. This makes the sensor read that the incoming air is hotter than it reaslly is. It is not really a question of Hp. It is a question of reliability.

If you want it get it but DO get the heat sheild & DON'T remove the snorkle or the intake silencer. You will then get cool air thru the snorkle/silencer blowing right on the air filter.

I have the Cobb intake and it's great. One of the few intakes that are compatable with the Accessport.
