A/F Gauge Install
Hello All,
I have a question regarding installing a Air/Fuel Autometer Gauge.
I have noticed that there are some posts that discourages the use of A/F Gauge because of the O2 sensor being a Narrow band and that a Wideband O2 sensor is required. Here's the thing, I got it for free as a christmas present. I don't want to return the thing and make my friend feel bad. He got me a Triple A pillar with Boost, Oil Pressure, and A/F Gauges. Everything else is a cinch to install but I have questions about the A/F Gauge.
# 1 How wrong will the reading be if I tap into the first Stock O2 sensor?
# 2 If it is wrong, what is a way the I can get an accurate reading? Can I tap into the ECU and if so ... does anyone know where to tap into on a 04 STI?
# 3 Would a Wideband O2 sensor be worth buying to get and accurate reading? I will not be any tuning anytime soon, just want to get this to be close as possible for now.
Any sugesstions will be most appreciated.
Thank you.

1 radicaly wrong .. won't work
2 you could hook it up the the rear sensor and make blinky lights but that is about all its is worth
3 no not unless you are tuning

I run a Greddy A/F on my WRX. Its not accurate enough to tune with, but it gives you a good idea after you tune with a good wideband unit.
also, if you constantly run a wideband O2 sensor in your car, it will go bad, they are not designed for constant use, just for tuning.
Taping into your stock O2 would work well, there are a lot of descent A/F meters that are designed to work with the stock O2 sensor.
give it a try. If you can, have a wideband in your car from your local speed shop and compare the readings.
