downpipe in Cali

So i live in Cali and currently stage 1. Wanna go stage 2 now, which means i need a downpipe. So i was set on getting a catted downpipe, but i also hear that the catted dp prob won't pass smog as well. Either way, i guess i was goin to switch back to my stock if i need to smog. So my quesiton is, should i get a catted or catless dp in Cali? Is catted dp worth it even if i will change to stock for a smog?

Catted:
Pros: catted, quieter, May pass smog (but i will change to stock to make sure)
Cons: expensive, quiet?

Cattless:
Pros: Better flow = more power, louder?, cheaper
Cons: Cattless, definitely won't pass smog, illegal, louder?

What you guys think? I've thought about it myself, but i need other's ppls point of view! Help me decide!

I think you should get cattless. There are a ton of guys running around the bay with full cattless DP's. It is louder for sure and it will get the attention of cops a lot more, but if your ok with getting pulled over then go for it. Ive only gotten two noisy muffler exhaust tickets, but im ok with it.

I'm catted with hi flow helix.

Before I had the dp on I got pulled over by chp no sooner than 2 weeks after I installed my cheepy SRS. Since then I've had my silencer in (1 year) and been stage 1. I recently bought a catless but decided against it and went with a hi flow cat, just to keep things quiet. I just don't need the attention and want to avoid being pulled over at all costs.

When I put the hi flow dp on, it didn't get much louder, just deeper and had more of a rumble (with major turbo spoolage audible). I've kept the silencer on, because I'm sure without it, it would be deafening. Not to mention MAJOR IMPROVEMENT after the tune going from stage 1 to 2. BTW, check out my thread I started... Has a few opinions you might be interested in reading.

catted downpipe should pass the actual smog test.

what it would not pass is visual.
