Cracked Piston

Is a cracked piston common on a 07 WRX with 90k? CEL came on, took it to the dealership, told me it was misfiring, they thought it was a burnt valve, so they did a leak down test, 2 cylinders are leaking so now they think it's the pistons. Need help.

welcome to the club. mine happened at around 70k, but my car still drives fine (i don't drive it hard) i drive about 10-12 miles a day…my advice, is depending on your budget you can either buy an oem short block, build yours up, or jdmswap

I actually bought an extended warranty so it sounds like they are going to put in a short block. Why the need for the whole short block and not just pistons?

If your having someone else do the work, it would be more cost effective to just buy a new shortblock versus paying for the labor replace and install new pistons. Also note the fact that when the tear down happens, you don't know if the cylinder walls are messed up or not, etc.

They are f ed up like a home made radio. Now it's just burnt valves.
