'07 FXT -- help with upgrade decisions

Hello there,

I've got an '07 FXT. I love the car and would like to see if I can get more torque out of it and improve drivability. I'm a Subaru newb, so I would appreciate your guys' opinion.

I am considering getting a UTEC Delta 003, either installing a TurboXS DP keeping rest of exhaust stock (should be pretty quiet and stealthy -- and cheapest), or TurboXS stealthback with stock muffler, or maybe even a full turboback. I could start out with ots WRX stage 2 maps and fine-tune from there. Would that be a route you'd go, considering UTEC is the only EM currently available for my car?

Another route would be to wait for the AP, get a Cobb turboback and run ots stage 2 maps. With either system I should be able to upgrade the turbo and intercooler later and have the car pro-tuned.

I like the idea of a UTEC because I can integrate a wideband into it's logs. What do you guys think? I'd appreciate any input.

Thank you,

Stan

I have the 06 wrx wagon so I will tell you what I have done.

1st Cobb AP
2nd Turbo back exhaust

Larger Rear sway bar
Prodrive springs

This is my 2nd WRX my first was a 02 that had a stg 4 pkg installed on it with the full spt susp kit installed on 18" speedline wheels.

I am more than happy with the Cobb AP running stg 2 and the turbo back and if I had to do it over again I would in a heartbeat. The next upgrade for the car is going to be a 18G 8cm and a larger top mount intercooler. I already have the intercooler so I am just waiting to save up the cash for the turbo.

The AP and the exhaust are going to be the best bang for the buck. I have a Tanabe touring medallian exhaust which is really quiet and does not resonate in the wagon at all. You need to think about this when you choose your exhaust with the FXT.

As far as susp stuff goes I would get some STI forester springs for your FXT and get some sway bars. OF course as always you should upgrade the tires first if you really want the car to handle well.

Super

Thank you for the response. I had the car lowered at 2,100 miles using Swifts (Forester-specific springs designed for stock struts, about 1 1/2 drop, little lower than the STi FXT springs) and had a Cusco RSB installed along with some better bushings. Also, had the car re-aligned with a bit more negative camber. I like twisties and in stock form the Forester was NOT safe for me LOL. I'm still on stock Geosqueelers but the car handles much better now. 7,200 miles on it now. I removed the silencer also, mostly because I was curious to see what would happen.. it's still off. Oh, and I have a Green filter, too.

AP seems to be the choice and was also recommended by a local shop, along with Stromung exhaust. So, I may have to wait for the AP to come out, and look for Stromung or Cobb tbe.. they aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Hey Stan,

I have heard good stuff about the swift springs! I also have had a performance alignment done on the car after the Prodrices were installed. If look for some JDM exhausts you might find some more stuff since they have the STI Forester but I am not quite sure if the lengths will be the same. The guys over at the forester board could also help you pick a good exhaust.

I am also on the stock crappy tires oh well I will wait til next summer and get a wheel and tire set so that I can have both. I have also removed the silencer from my 06 wagon and am sitting at a little over 10,000 miles. I thought the AP was already available for your car?

Good Luck Dennis

No, no AP for '07 or '08 Forester yet. Enginuity doesn't support it yet, either. UTEC Delta 003 for '06+ WRX is the only option.
