Clutch decisions?

I've been looking for a new clutch and flywheel for my 05 Sti. My original one is starting to slip. So I really need one asap. If anyone has a good suggestion on where I can get a good one plz let me know. I'm thinking about a stage 2. I want a hard clutch. Not a soft pedal. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hard clutch; ACT street light flywheel and clutch. Stay away from the pucks for street. The regular street clutch holds very well. For a softer pedal exedy.

Set it up with the ****** @ GST. They're running a special right now....

If you're gonna daily drive your car in traffic, I say don't bother upgrading your clutch unless you are making the power to warrant it. A stiffer clutch and lighter flywheel in a daily driver SUCKS when you're stuck in traffic. If you are only going to a "stage 2" then stick with the stock clutch and flywheel.

If you insist on upgrading some decent options for daily driving are Carbonetic single and RPS streetmax.

I like my ACT, had two of them now, one in my old subie, and now in my STi, stiffens the stock pedal pressure bit, but nothing crazy.

IMO get the flywheel too. If you're not one for performance driving the stocker may be better for you.

What's an organic clutch? What's it's purpose?

Organic refers to the material used in the clutch. The ACT street series are organic, as are the stock ones. Organic material tends to have a smooth engagement, but can get a bit "melty" under high stress (launches) but will recover again with use.

For street use, for what you have in mind, an organic material clutch would likely be best. I have the ACT heavy duty along with a lighter (streetlite) flywheel. They are still being broken in, but I have driven a fully broken in one on an 05 STI. The engagement feels like stock, the pedal is slightly heavier, but not by any substantial amount.

Your clutch and flywheel connect the engine to the drivetrain. They are engineered to slip at a certain load, if you were to generate a lot more load and NOT slip (which is the point of aftermarket performance clutches) then you will transfer all that load into your gearbox.

performance clutches will put extra load on the transmission.
Extra load on the transmission causes damage to it. Maybe not right away, but it definitely does.

So what you want is not a "better" clutch, but rather the "RIGHT" clutch for your power and application. In your case, (stock or stage2 power levels) the RIGHT clutch is the OEM one or an OEM equivalent replacement.

Get it?
