06 STI and have Qs
First off, hello to all. Last week I picked up an 06 STI Black on silvers! I bought it used w/ just under 7kmi. I'm new to the Subbies, but not to fast vehicles. I owned 2 FC3S RX-7s, and a EVO III when I lived in Japan, 7.2 1/8mi time. I just sold a 01 Lightning for the STI. Well, I am in love with the STI, reminds me of street races in Japan. Well, I have some questions and concerns I was hoping you guys could help me out with. When I bought the car it came w/ a TBE from "TaipanXP" has anyone heard of this brand, its based out of Australia? Well I've been lurking around the STI forums and they say that if you put a TBE on you need some sort of reflash or engine management otherwise the car doesn't run right. Is that true? All I have is the TBE car runs fine I guess, no check engine light. What are some symptoms I should look for? How can I tell if the previous owner used a Cobb AP? Should I invest in one, or wait till my next mod (CAI?) Also, maintenence whise, what are the best products for oils, lubes, plugs and pads. Thanks for your help!

I believe the problem with having a turboback is that some of them cause boost creep. I don't think there is an external way to see if an AP has been used. My guess is that it would have been unmarried and sold or the seller would have probably given you with the car.
Regaring, "What is the best product?" everybody will have opinions, just make sure that whatever you do get meets your needs, ie dusty hard pads vs quieter softer pads.

TaipanXP systems were sold by a number of different vendors few years back. Vishnu used them as non-signature exhaust systems for example. Decent system.
Yes, you should really invest in engine management. Lately AP seems to be the hot seller. Also remember, that it would be good to get a professional tuner to do the jiggy for you.
